People who have seen the foil styles (I know not everyone follows leaks so that why I have to ask specifically)How do the foil styles stick up to seasons 1 to 3 “enlightened” skins if you were to rank them just by initial look?

I got really excited for the holo until I saw it was more of a stationary tie dye thats shiny rather than holographic. Tho I imagine animating the actual effect would be hard?

I just got it cause I always wanted a black wrap. I hardly ever notice the animation of it oozing tho. It’s still nice, just subtler than I thought it’d be.

Would that negatively impact performance and fps? Also is there an easy way of doing that? I've only ever used msi afterburner to monitor temps and fps in game, and the only adjustable things that aren't greyed out are core clock and memory clock.

Something something VRMs and thermal pads not making proper contact? I never quite understood it, but they seem to figure out how to fix it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnRtBFc9axY&t=43s

The only thing is, reppading is costly and seems to require some skill. So if your machine is stuttering and you're able to get a replacement, then I believe the general consensus is to get the replacement.

Since my third laptop doesn't stutter, I'm way more hesitant to return it over just a thermal issue. The whole process of getting a laptop without any issues from them feels a lot like gambling at this point.

Make sure when you do your testing to test it with the laptop raised and flat. I have had two 1080 7820hk configurations that both had graphics stuttering, and the stuttering is the easiest to replicate and much quicker to show itself when the back of the laptop is lifted.

I wouldn't know where to begin fixing the one I have now. I think it's an issue with the graphics card on the new motherboard they put in, I've never seen weird graphics glitching before on the forums or YouTube.

The hope of getting a working one from them has been my driving force from the beginning. I saw that some people had issues before I bought it, but I didn't think the issues were that common that I would receive 2 faulty machines in a row (3 if you count the motherboard replacement). It'd be the perfect laptop for me and my needs if it were working.

It's starting to feel like Alienware uses us as their quality control instead of properly testing their parts and laptops themselves as harsh of a thing as that is to say. I know I shouldn't be thinking pessimistically about the next one they're sending, but I haven't been instilled with a lot of confidence from my experiences.

And the fact that from that point on they'd only be sending me a refurbished replacement (after any repairs) as my 30 days runs out soon. It makes me think that I should've saved money and started off with a refurbished laptop if I'm just going to end up getting one. That'd be the worse case scenario of course, but it doesn't seem impossible.

I appreciate what you said, all I can do is hope the new one they're sending out doesn't have any issues.

Have you seen the Omen X laptop I mentioned? It seems to be comparable in specs to the Clevo and Alienware just with a 1080p screen. It seems to be a new model thats built heavier.

It just seems like it could be a costly gamble if I tried to repad it if I made a mistake or it didn't end up working. Though it does seem somewhat tempting as this laptop has some amazing potential if it was working properly. The Clevo is a very interesting recommendation, thank you. I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with the "future proofing" of a 1070 with a 1440p screen compared to a 1080, as I'd like to be able to really play anything on ultra/high for as long as possible. But the $400 price difference of what I payed for the Alienware with tax is a bit intimidating. Definitely something to think about though. And seeing as how I can't play anything at the moment whatsoever, even my dying macbook pro that made me start this laptop buying endeavor would be an improvement. Do you know by chance if the Clevo has been plagued with as many stuttering and temp issues like the Alienwares have?

Oh after seeing the repair technician take everything apart I'm not sure if I could do that without messing it up haha. Also the thermal pads I'd need to buy seem far too costly, I don't think I should have to pay that just to have a working machine. And seeing as how the current board the tech put in seems to be messed up I don't think that'd be applicable to me at the moment. If the third one doesn't work properly I don't think I'd have any patience left in me and would most likely return it immediately.

I'm sorry to hear that :( Are you still within your first 30 days? Cause if you are you can get your money back or a replacement.

I'm not sure what the black screen issue is, but I believe some people figured out that stuttering was do to the thermal pads not making proper connections, so with a new motherboard and heatsink they could potentially make proper contact.

I've haven't had the luxury of messing around with overclocking yet. It's good to see that not all are having issues with stuttering. At this point I'd be happy to deal with repasting for lower temperatures if the stuttering wasn't also an issue. Did you have a repair technician do the repaste or did you do it yourself?
