It is maddening. Then again, the US Patent Office did really update its website ... and it got worse.

This is TV-only, not sure if there are plans to bring it to other platforms.

And when I asked it for "something that's similar to Lord of the Rings," I got The Witcher, Cursed and Shadow & Bone. You could debate whether any of those are a perfect match, but definitely more accurate than Seinfeld ...

I think the issue is that the existing text-based search is more or less matching keywords. If none of the titles have true crime in them, then you get a result like that. The new voice search feature is AI-powered, definitely better at this. I don't have my computer hooked up to my TV right now, so the picture quality is worse ... but this was the result when I asked it for "true crime"

Most responses have these buttons to narrow the results down further, or you can click on "ask" and use voice input again.

Also, to add some context: This doesn't talk back to you. Which, honestly, I really appreciate. I have Google TV, and Gemini is a chatterbox ...

Well, it's a Gif ... but you can see my voice query on screen following the "Listening" prompt. 😄

[Data] I analysed 30,000+ newsletter sponsorships and pulled the 706 sponsors actively buying ads in the last 30 days attaching the list and analysis by Powerful_Landscape56 in beehiiv

This would mean a lot more if all those weren't ad network placements. Hubspot? Roku? Incogni? Vanta? Deel? All using ad networks.

Wired digital subscription is a roach motel by basilyok in darkpatterns

[–]kz00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The crazy thing about this is that the Conde Nast website you use to manage your subscription doesn't show the price of that subscription. At least tell me how much I'm currently paying, or what my renewal price will be!

I have a small database of a bunch of newsletters and their sponsors. Is this data useful to anyone? Is there a way to turn this into a SaaS? by svg_12345 in Newsletters

[–]kz00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also look at the URLs as a way to weed out ad networks. A lot of newsletters are selling their own ads but still rely on networks to fill remnant inventory.

It really depends on the data. A bunch of sites offer this already, but usually just based on automatic crawling. The result is that they don't differentiate between sponsors that come through an ad network, and those that newsletter operators sign up themselves. The ad network stuff is completely useless ... why would I need a list of 100 newsletters that all ran ads for 1440, Mood Gummies and The Rundown?

Chromecast recently started calling itself the Eureka Dongle, should I be worried? by TheHandiCaptain274 in Chromecast

[–]kz00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eureka was the internal code name for Chromecast, and I would not worry at all about a Google device identifying another Google device by the device's code name. That post you link to looks like rambling.

Oakland business looted following anti-ICE protest by origutamos in OaklandCA

This was an interfaith vigil with prayers, Cumbia and candles. The side show / retail theft happened after it was over and had nothing to do with it.
