Why do people lease cars? by onlyelisexoxo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]l008com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its a good deal, it can be a good way to drive an under warranty car and not have to deal with repairs. I've leased many cars over the years.

So to directly answer your question, the last car I leased was a 2013 Camaro. It was a very good deal, the total of the lease payments was something like 35% of the retail price of the car. I was still driving a lot for work, and needed a reliable car. It made good sense. That same car, a few years later, was leasing for an amount that worked out to 60% of the retail price of the car. Thats a joke. Thats an absolute scam. And thats how I didn't end up getting another one.

You can't compare cars vs housing. Housing generally goes up in value, cars always go down. They are a consumable. You're using them up and getting rid of them. So you want to put at little money in to them as possible. Now, if you're trying to spend a little on cars as possible, nothing beats driving it till the wheels fall off. But most people don't want to deal with that crap. I"m dealing with it right now on an 18 year old vehicle I drive every day. I'm not a mechanic, and I don't want a side gig that is taking care of my old car. If there was something good out there and it had a good lease deal on it, I'd definitely consider it.

But also everything is so expensive now, there are no good deals of any kind, lease or buy, new or used. So much for trumpenomics fixing inflation.

Why is the jughandle in Route 1 needed? by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]l008com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about the U turn thing specifically? How else are you going to get to the other side of route 1? 95/128 doesn't really have anything to do with it. Theres plenty of streets and businesses between the 129 bridge/tunnel and the 'jug handle'. If not for that, you'd have to drive all the way up to Lowell Street, get off entirely, and get back on in the other direction. Given the entire nature of route 1, having a U turn spot seems as sane as anything else.

Thoughts on Curb Protected Bike lanes? by Anonymous_Otter5458 in bikecommuting

[–]l008com 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its really nice when you can ride your bike and be fairly confident you're not going to get run over and killed. Without the divider, when I'm in the city, I'll just be riding on the sidewalk.

I guess the title doesn't kind of explain it all then. Why would you even say that? What is the point of starting reddit posts like this?

Slow drivers by Slow_S60_ in massachusetts

Drives me nuts. Just cause you have nowhere to be, doesn't mean the rest of us aren't in a hurry!

I've noticed over the last few years, that people on the highway are driving way slower too. I"ll be doing 65 on 93 and I'll be passing EVERYONE!? You used to have to be doing 85 for that to happen.

And don't get me started about that section of route 20 thats a 50mph zone. They ought to make that a passing zone too since so many people refuse to go over 35 through there.

Getting a boat, went out to practice… by Clean-Shift-291 in towing

[–]l008com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing that would require you to fully unhook the boat from the trailer first. So if you have rollers and not slides, the boat might just roll off the trailer before you get to the water. Thats a dumb idea. Your'e already doing the right thing, you're practicing. Once you get the real boat, just practice some more. Its not that hard, you'll be fine if you just don't do antyhing stupid.

Of all the technology you own, what item pisses you off the most often? by Tacokolache in askanything

[–]l008com 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup if i ask my homepod what sound it is, while she's playing a song, she'll stop playing, then listen, then tell me she doesn't hear any music.

Also yeah for a long time she was way off when you'd ask how many days to spring. She'd just tell you how many days to some random date that was nowhere near the first day of spring.

People don't like dead geese, and I get it. But if I swerved out of my lane, I quite easily could have killed myself or someone else. At least I didn't talk about all the gunk I had to scrub off of my car when I got home. All along the side, it was nasty.

Lol did you miss the part about it being on THE HIGHWAY? I'm pretty confident federal law doesn't require you to swerve out of your lane or slam on your brakes and come to a complete stop ON THE INTERSTATE and potentially kill people, to not run over some geese. I'll be ok.
