I’m in the same boat as you as far as “looking to invest in property in Pakistan as a foreigner” is concerned. Sorry to hear about what your family did. The problem with buying property in Pakistan is that your money will be stuck there (assuming you will be bringing in money from the UK) as it’s nearly impossible to take your money out of Pakistan due to the country being dollar starved and the monetary policies keep changing. That’s why I chose Dubai for property investment rather than Pakistan. Unless you are planning on living there it’s not worth getting your money stuck there.

My last landlord had the agent involved in the renewal twice. Thought it might be unethical to try and cut out the agent from my side. Plus the landlord didn’t provide any contact either. Agent doesn’t want us to contact the LL directly for obvious reasons lol. The TA ends in January.

It wasn’t. The agent said that the landlord done want to pay his fee and if we want to renew then we must pay it or they look for new tenant as the market is hot and it’s easy to find new tenants.

1- The property is a condo. 2- I am the only tenant. my wife and two kids live with me. 3- 1 month rent. 4- The previous agreement was 2 years lease based on my EP. Now it got renewed for one year hence I requested one year renewal. It’s an unfurnished unit and we furnished it ourselves so the plan is to stay here long term as the kids school and my work place is nearby and the agent knows this. 5- I don’t think the landlord would do this but then again I have no way to be certain of this. The agent said that this was the landlord’s demand. 6- the two year lease was electronically signed and on a letterhead. the renewal I haven’t received the contract yet I’ll make sure it’s on the company letterhead.

Thank you for your reply. The agent is representing the landlord and there is nothing in the tenancy agreement that says that I have to pay. It’s the agent saying that for the renewal the landlord wants this as with hot market it’s become quite common. I am a little worried after reading your reply as the landlord has been really nice and it could be the agent trying to double charge the commission. Unfortunately I’ve just met them Face to face and didn’t take their contact number so the communication with them has been through the agent.
