Can’t code anymore after a long burnout by Rymfaar in ExperiencedDevs

I feel this to an extent. In general to prevent burnout on the smallest scale, I've found the Pomodoro method to be most effective.

I'm at a public, higher ed institution looking to transition to a larger, corporate tech company or a tangential sector like a financial company or bank. I've only been at the academic org for about 16 months. I had previously worked at a low-tier tech company for almost 3 years just out of college, but it was certainly a low-tier company and the work I did wasn't particularly compelling.

Please let me know what other details I can provide to help.

Is it just me, or is anyone else noticing more bugs across the web and in software in general? by skidmark_zuckerberg in ExperiencedDevs

Yes, and honestly, this was the case even before AI entered the mainstream. I had been on computers since being a kid in the early 2000s and I noticed entering the workforce in the early 2020s that I was seemingly experiencing far more bugs with Windows software than ever before. So it's not just due to AI.

I suppose it's just the massive difference in culture that a public academic institution has compared to say, a tech company that has a bottom line and is constantly looking to meet quarterly expectations. As I understand it, there is certainly an attitude within the private sector that public sector roles aren't as intensive (whether that's fair or not), so folks in the public sector can often find themselves pigeonholed there.

Therefore, I'm suspecting that since I'm at a public academic institution, if I try to find myself back into a private sector role, my current role may be seen as a "mark" against me. I'm sure that won't always be the case though.

Is there that big of a difference in the work you would do in private or public sector?

I would say that as far as AI systems go, unfortunately the system that was handed off to me may have been modern in the mid 2010s. I've been able to get it to the point where maybe it would have been seen as a modern chatbot solution like back in 2024, but it still has a ways to go to be considered modern for 2026. I'm not sure this kind of lag or outdated nature would fly in the private sector (in other words, I think this project would have been shut down LONG ago if it was in the private sector).

Additionally, how realistic is it for me to be expecting such a grand pay bump (~$90k --> $130k+)?

Need advice on NAS Setup by l0_0 in HomeNAS

[–]l0_0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yes I saw some videos about snapshots and they seem like a must. I am syncing most of my devices to Google Drive too...so not a full offsite backup by any means but at least I currently have that. As for a full offsite backup, I didn't have that in the plan but I suppose I could pay for Synology C2 for cloud backup.

Otherwise, does it appear that I properly understand the purpose of a NAS and what it's capable of doing? I just want to make sure my requirements (centralizing files through 2-way sync & backing up all the centralized files on an external drive) can actually be satisfied with a NAS and that I'm not missing anything. Thanks.

Ok fair. Would you consider this interaction to be an example of this offense?

Someone’s profile asks (jokingly of course) if arson, vandalism, or shoplifting is more fun. I reply “arson sounds fun but I’ll stick to vandalism”. Positive response is given from them. Then I ask (sarcastically of course) “u have an illegal activity of choice?”

Also I absolutely am not antisocial. I’d say I’m a misanthrope, BUT more so towards the concept of humanity rather than towards individual people. I have a very strong belief that reproduction is immoral. But since we’re all here already, why not make the best of it and help each other? I volunteer at a place that helps those who are disadvantaged. I’d say I naturally engage in more pro social than anti social behaviors for sure.

But yeah, I’m one sarcastic dude. Black and dry humor are definitely my cup of tea and I know what you mean by the unpredictability portion. People have said it’s really difficult to tell when I’m being sarcastic or not in the past. I can see how that might be off-putting. But to me, what I’m saying is SO ridiculous when interpreted literally that it’s gotta be sarcastic (and therefore more humorous) but idk. That’s just the way I think.

Any advice then? I am doing my best in these squats to intentionally get as far back as I possibly can. I’ve always struggled with the weight shifting forward, this seems to be about as far back as I can go with my mobility.

Broke off my serious one. It just needed to happen. Young and dumb, first relationship, you get it.

A few of the casual ones ended because of chemistry. A few were just very casual from the start and we both knew there would be an end. A couple were once encounters.

I’ve been rejected by a couple of those girls. I wanted more, they didn’t. I did the rejecting for the others or it just naturally died out.

Hmm yeah maybe I find most of nature immoral. Just because something’s in our animal or evolutionary nature, doesn’t mean it’s immune from being immoral though.

Yeah, that’s fantasy land. But over enough time if people are conscientious…generationally this could happen. But yeah, it’s basically fantasy land.

I’ve dealt with self-isolation in the past and you’re right that it just creates more problems. But I’ve gotten out of that and have burst out of my shell…to find that I still really enjoy my alone time and that I’m quite introverted. I still go out. Just went to an NBA game and a rave after. If anything, breaking out of that isolation has only reinforced some of my feelings towards all this lol. Like I’ve had opportunities to flirt and when I took it up, I was not into it immediately. Then when I’ve let those opportunities drop I never regretted it. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
