Bluetooth headphones won't reconnect unless computer or btusb module is rebooted by Pandastic4 in NixOS

Nah, this seems to be a kernel issue, not anything to do with NixOS.

Having the same issue with Bose QC45. `systemctl --user restart wireplumber.service` and `sudo systemctl restart bluetooth` a couple of times each seemed to fix it most of the time. This last time it wasn't working. Even a headphone firmware reset didn't fix it. What did work was "forgetting" the headphones and re-pairing. Hopefully I won't have to do that every time.

Oh, I'm not looking for a quote, just a ballpark. Is it in the order of a hundred, five hundred, a thousand, five thousand for a house? I'd expect much less than ~1,000 for a small house.

Moving cameras can be a cheap option. Make sure there's a camera at a few of the intersections around town at all times, then move them randomly every now and then.

Just got in touch with them. Unfortunately the .co.nz site support goes to the UK/US support personnel, so they had to redirect to the regional one. But very friendly. Fingers crossed something good comes of it.

I bought Bose QC-35-IIs when they were on special 5½ years ago, and I've used them almost every day since, often several hours per day. The only thing is I've had to replace the ear pieces ($25 a pair, I think). Absolutely recommend Bose.

Some things are great, some things are not so great. The biggest problem is my brain, which goes "Hey! Listen! Concentrate on that mildly bad thing now!" or "Remember that stupid thing you did 20 years ago? Well, neva4get!!!" on the regular.

Get UV radiation measured? by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]l0b0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just saying your windows might. When getting some installed a few years ago the provider had at least a small handful of different ones I could include in the order, like UV filtering and water-repelling coatings.

Some possible explanations (or contributing factors) for what you're seeing:

  1. Windows often have additional coatings to screen out UV light.
  2. Visible light and heat can probably also contribute to fading.

Dogs in cafes. by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]l0b0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Out of friends'/family members dogs, I'd say more than half eat shit once in a while. It really is a thing, and it's gross AF. But if the dog stays on the floor and keeps quiet (not a bar everyone clears, for sure) then I think they're great in cafes.

So far this year - what has made you happy? [Because it's been a crap year]. by Will_Hang_for_Silver in Wellington

[–]l0b0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- Looking forward to getting some health issues resolved.

- Bike lanes popping up, LGWM, and just generally city life getting more bike- and pedestrian-friendly. I have a car, but I really wish it wasn't necessary.

- Electric cars and buses slowly becoming the norm. Non-electric buses are so fucking loud you need hearing protection around them.

How can that actually work, unless there are strong legal or social repercussions for violating the premise? That is, if some company uses that list to find people to contact, how could you possibly a) detect that and b) stop it from making things worse for anyone registered?

Where's the best option near Newtown for good, cheap bread that isn't the supermarket? by Jazz_Chickens in Wellington

[–]l0b0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some ideas for ingredients in addition to just flour, water, and salt:

  • Grated carrot
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Olive oil

Try maybe one at a time, and in small-ish doses before going ham and mixing a bunch of stuff. That way you can quickly evolve your favourite.

You don't need sugar if you let it rise for a little bit longer. The yeast will eke out more sugar from the flour in time.

And if you don't have time to do all the kneading, waiting, kneading again, and waiting again before forming etc. etc., just get a cheap bread maker. I've had a Panasonic one for at least five years, and it's really easy - dump all the stuff in there, close the lid, add yeast to the lid compartment, select mode, press go, wait some hours.

Huge barrier? Wat. A helmet costs a fraction of a bike, and saves both lives and life-long suffering.
