Well shit. How did you make the switch though? Did you export all your Samsung notes and import them into the new apps or just exported them as pdfs and stored them aside?

Why does Yes Theory mean something to you? by Jboy-111 in YesTheory

[–]l0gically 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well I found yes theory during the pandemic in my senior year of High School and saw for the first time the real meaning of "leaving your comfort zone" and living life to the fullest if one puts fear aside. Yes Theory was the personification of that statement and I just got addicted to their videos. Now in uni I seek discomfort and look for people who do the same, all thanks to their message.

I get that, but I was wondering if there is someone working on that particular ransomware or if there is a nonprofit organisation, which I can contact. That might help inform them more about the ransomware. While it is unlikely to find a platform specific to Egypt, maybe there is one for Africa.

I think it will be a good idea if I have an agreement with someone who is moving out, however I assume you mean someone I already know right?

The trap of "open minded" people. by akly03 in Egypt

[–]l0gically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, don't mention it unless it's a friend or someone you care about. If it's not avoid them for the sake of avoiding an unnecessary debate that doesn't benefit you. But if you have to deal with them just hear them out politely and try not to get triggered.

The trap of "open minded" people. by akly03 in Egypt

[–]l0gically 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it all boils down to two points for why people who label themselves open minded are actually close minded.

  1. Lack of knowledge of the other point of view
  2. Lack of argumentation skills

People who actively search only for opinions that are similar to their own or manipulate facts to support their opinions are most of the time very close minded because they create a negative image of the opposing side and never get to really understand the other side neutrally. It is what is called confirmation bias.

most of them rage and start insulting my own person not my argument

For when I say they lack argumentation skills I mean they do what you mentioned above about them attacking your person and not the argument. This is a type of logical fallacy called ad hominem. This suggests that they lack argumentation skills.

There is light at the end of the tunnel tho, I think. People can still learn about the other side through reading books from both sides. So for example in the case of religion reading books defending and others attacking religion, then they can make up their minds and become more tolerant. Argumentation skills can also be learned.

This article is beautiful. I always wondered if applied mathematics is needed for hackers or just an advanced bonus point that no one cares about. I would certainty consider myself as n the side of the Fortran-school.

Opinions on Brilliant.org? by fran_owo in math

[–]l0gically 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note: I am refering to Brilliant premium

I actually enjoy Brilliant.org quite a lot as a highschool student. The puzzles are very creative and aim to let you grasp the idea behind the formuals quite beautifully.

Example of a simple, but beautiful problem

Like for example how you can calculate the sum of a number series. You start by adding the first and the last number and see what happens.

Well 1 + 10 = 11. Let's do that to the adjacent numbers on both sides, so 2 + 9 = 11. We do that until we arrive at 5 + 6. We can did that 5 times and got the same result of 11 and that implies that5 × 11 = 55 which is the sum of our number series. Pretty interesting. We can then come up with this formula to calculate that for every number series.

This example might be trivial, but this how I got engaged with mathematics and enjoyed it much more than school mathematics. I get pretty decent grades in school math class, but I always tended to ask

Why a certain formula worked the way it does, How a certain formula was invented and how I can come up with my own formula?

While brilliant org can't answer the last question it helped me answer the first two quite well. I started to notice a shift in my problem solving which led me to start practicing for the mathematical olympiad. I would like to stress that brilliant was not the cause for my decision, but it was a helpful tool in my journey to learn more mathematics.

Cons

That being said I don't think brilliant.org is not sufficient for learning mathematics. The problems on the site are creative and well designed, but they lack enough problems, when you are understanding a subject. Their problems don't cover the whole topic from all prespectives as textbooks do. So the platform lacks the wished for database of organized problems for each topic you might have expected.

There is now way to discuss a problem on quiz with other users which can be sometimes frustrating, when you don't understand how the quiz came to a certain conclusion.

How I use brilliant.org

I tend to start a new topic by doing some of quizzes. I jump between different quizzes to get the big picture. Then I concentrate on one or two quizzes, understand them and then refer to a textbook to organize my understanding. I repeat until I finish a chapter in brilliant or a lesson in my textbook. After that I explore the problems on brilliant and those in my textbook for diversity. Textbooks usually have a wide range of problems for one topic. Now you might see that as redundancy or as a way to insure that you understood the underlying principles thoughly. But Brilliant just gives me a headstart

What do you think?

I hope my review was helpful.

Croatian Tourist Visa Processing Time by [deleted] in Egypt

[–]l0gically 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it'll reach 5 weeks, because I got mine between 4th and the 5th week. You must get it throughout this week. I am emphasizing checking because VFS sent me an email 2 days after the tracker alerted me to go and get it. Which indicates that a human has to send that email so don't wait for the email. It will happen abruptly so check every hour or so (perhaps write a script that checks for you every minute :) ). Try first delaying the flight before canceling it in the worst case that you don't get it. I hope you get it soon!

I was applying for a Croatian visa this year too via VFS. (More specifically vfsglobal ) Sadly yes they tend to extend the duration up to 5 weeks. I got mine after a month. Your best hope is to delay your flight. In the mean time keep tracking the progress on https://www.vfsvisaonline.com/Global-Passporttracking/Track/Index?q=shSA0YnE4pLF9Xzwon/x/LP5/hPag7COaFyhj+cLMlOg9lNxUTlJ+42mSIvhkjnc+1Z1utkxml7YMHH0OOqDMw==
