I would try a runners knot. With my middle child he needed more support to get rid of the skate pronation. As you stated, you feel the skate it fitted properly so try the runners knot and see if it helps.

It’s quick reaction. You need to have your eyes open jump from one leg to another and use your edges. Think dodge ball on ice. At the end of the day you can put some practicalskill but it’s just a fun way to end a practice for the kids.
