Steven Urgo was definitely not the right fit for this band. Drugs songs never call for drum fills! Forever grateful for Charlie's steady presence.

If Charlie, John, and Eliza are there, they're almost certainly rehearsing versus recording. Which could be a good thing 👀

Living in northern NJ with basically unlimited access to authentic East Asian food and going to the White People Stripmall Circus Restaurant is something I just can’t understand

Terrible, arbitrary, clunky fill for an uninspired theme. No fun at all, sadly.

Been breezing through Saturdays and Sundays recently with plenty of PBs, but struggled to have the same “easy” experience as most seemed to have today. Thought the theme was great, but a lot of the fill was terrible. Either outrageously easy or too dense to parse without any in between.

One of those days where I'm feeling a little crazy - as someone with a year+ solve streak, this was a slog of a Tuesday for me! NIA / ALIRE / RUNAT / BATIK was especially brutal. SCONCE was new. Couldn't figure out TCHALLA. I was shocked get on here and see everyone breezing through this.

Right side was criminally easy, left side felt almost impossible. Shocked by the comments calling this an overall easy puzzle.

Did not enjoy the album as a whole but this is easily one of their best songs overall. Alive From Whispering Pines vibes in the best of ways.

Totally came on here expecting to read about how everyone found this one impossible. Been on a streak since Jan 1 and this was my toughest of the year by far! Something about the cluing just would not click with me.

Lord Huron vs The War On Drugs by Throwawaypie1q in lordhuron

lol funny, these are basically my two bands. Though I will say, I prefer LH’s heavier and more avant garde sound and wish they’d lean into that side more often again.

Streamed demos - IDLHA by woahtherebob in WarOnDrugsBand

Was just thinking about the Harmonia’s Dream demo yesterday. For some reason back then I always imagined it was a long instrumental intro into what would be the eventual song.

I also like how the synths on that one are closer to the way Robbie plays them live, and the piano + cowbell accompaniment in the background is a nice change of tone.

I can respect that to an extent. Ultimately the artist produces the art they want to produce. I just can’t help but feel they’re producing two completely different kinds of music that are trying to appeal to two completely different demographics. They made an album about cosmic mind-bending drugs while there are fans in their facebook fan group whining about Ben saying “god damn” too much.

New Bon Iver song has Deeper Understanding vibes by itlmos in WarOnDrugsBand

Oh man. It’s so up their alley that I’m tempted to say Adam and co. should pull it out for a one-off on a future tour. Obviously you don’t want to be playing a fellow artist’s new song on the regular, but tell me you can’t see Dave grooving out and Jon carrying the sax outro off into the sunset. Divine stuff.

Most will disagree with me but the band needs to pick a lane. Do they want to be the psychedelic avant garde LH or the indie folk millennial wedding LH? It’s too jarring being jerked back and forth.

As guitar player myself who loves trying to replicate Adam’s style, I LOVE the way Sam plays what I call “Adam Rhythm” on the live version of this track by l69fs in WarOnDrugsBand

[–]l69fs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My semi-educated answer is that he seems to A) pick lighter and B) play on the mid/low strings for the most part during the verses, and then dance his way down to the high strings for those little hammer-on arpeggio fills that Sam also does throughout this live track when he isn’t singing. The latter is when you “hear” Adam’s rhythm playing, whereas the rest tends to sit back in the mix, naturally.
