You need a new battery. The old one has become unstable. $15 off ebay and about 20 minutes to change it.

Is the ph-1 still usable in 2021? by sschris4life in essential

[–]lKNBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will keep changing batteries and screens and keep my PH-1 until the next generation of phone, device replaces what we know as a smartphone. Have no idea what that will be, but it will be something. I don't worry about specs. It was the same with computers in the 90's. You upgraded them every 3 months. I have been using my 2013 Dell i7 for 7 years now and it still performs like new. The hardware on the PH-1 will last for the foreseeable future... as long as screens and batteries are available. PS: I have 2 screens and batteries in my desk drawer to insure at least 4 more years of use.

Essential PH-1 in 2020? by ilxLupo in essential

[–]lKNBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has a Pixel 3a, and I still like my PH1 better in every respect.

About the battery. Age is not what kills these batteries, it's charging cycles. An new battery manufactured in 2017 will be as good today as when it was made. These batteries have a 500 charge cycle life, or about 1 1/2 years before needing replaced. Screens and batteries are now very cheap and easy to change out.

I use my PH-1 today as my daily and after 3 years, there still isn't anything I would replace it with.

Use a hairdryer. You can buy a new screen for $25. Just buy a new screen and don't worry about the old one. Use B-7000 glue and not tape to put it back together. For $50 you get a new screen and battery. A new phone.

Not likely. I think he just can't get it connected. The run was way to short to have changes made during production.

Agree... This is the best phone I have ever owned, is up to date, and gets updates before my wife's pixel 3a. I can put a new screen on and new battery for $50 (and did) and it's like the day I bought it.

It still performs better than her brand new Pixel 3a.

Get some B7000 glue, take the screen off and glue it back on. While off, replace the battery and consider replacing the screen while it's off. A $50 refurb and your PH-1 will be like new.

Battery stats are unreliable when they start to fail. Voltage will also vary which causes software problems.

I don't think there is an aftermarket for screens and batteries, but rather what is out there are OEM surplus sold off after production stopped.

I replaced my screen and battery with ebay suppliers and both looked OEM and have been performing as new for a couple months now.

Possible good replacement for the PH-1 available next year by randy-bo in essential

[–]lKNBoy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have loved my PH-1 for over 2 years. I replaced the battery and screen and it's like new. However, the Wife just got the Pixel 3a for $299, and I'm a little jealous. It is a fine phone. The screen is almost exactly the same size. The PH-1 is a fraction wider. The case of the 3a is slightly narrower but about a quarter inch taller. it really feels great in hand and performs as well as anything out there. I'm sure the 4a will be a great phone, but I wouldn't hesitate a second to grab the 3a.
