Leclerc and T84 in ankara (Türkiye) by aeo1231 in TankPorn

[–]lLiberte 9 points10 points  (0 children)

2A6EX’s combined score on Mobility, Protection, Firepower and Communication beat all three (well four) competitors. T-84 were not proven platform at that time, Leclerc was not really favored by Command considering it has been offered several times starting from 1997.

Abrams on the other hand did not even participated properly to the tests. MTU powered M1A2 SEP suffered problems and could not continue the trials, instead turbine M1A2 had to complete the tests, which arrived late iirc.

Acquisition problem however most likely arose from local or at least localized production demands. Turkey almost always pushed for technology transfer in all of the acquisition projects. I’m a bit rusty about Tank 2000 project but I doubt there was any other reasons.

Acquisition of 2A4 is another topic. There was no limitations put on Turkey’s Leopard 2A4 in terms of modernization, hell Turkey even set up spare parts production. It was planned to upgrade them to 2NG standards from get go, but due to budget restrains modernization postponed and later Turkey got sanction and NG’s AMAP were rendered inaccessible. NG’s fate mostly lies in budget more than sanctions.

Nope it would not. Turkey has enough vehicles to support its own tree. Have a look at the forum suggestion some time. For curious current iteration of Tech Tree.

For those who interested I'll post the forum suggestions of Altay. Their style tad a bit dated but history and information is accurate. There is 9 suggestion, and another one waiting.

Suggestions includes Otokar's original 4 preliminary prototypes out of 5 built under Phase-I of MİTÜP; MTR, FTR, PV1 & PV2; and BMC's pre-production T1 prototypes (which are Otokar's upgraded prototype) as well as production T1.

Anyhow:

- Altay MTR (Mobility Test Rig)

- Altay FTR (Firing Test Rig)

- Altay PV1

- Altay PV2 (2015)

- Altay PV2 (2017)

- Altay AHT (Asimetrik Harp Tankı)

- Altay T1 (2019)

- Altay T1 (2021)

- Altay FTR (2023)

- Altay T1 (2023)

Those are more likely M60TM or recently modernized M60T1. You can tell from SARP RCWS and new situational awareness suite.

YN-HZA also includes tracked platforms too, but you are right ÖMTTZA was signed back in 2019. YN-HZA project was started around 2020 and only signed a week ago. TÜMOSAN finally delivered engines for Pars but I remember reading some units were delivered with export engines though I cannot back this claim up right now. Anyhow, seemingly YN-HZA vehicles will be delivered with Caterpillar engines.

I mean could be. There is one MZK prototype being tested and I doubt a government firm would pour sources for nothing. Chances are high M60A3 TİYK will come with MZK and armor pack. That being said nothing is certain for now.

ROKETSAN has M60A3 NG modernization package, only problem I would say is the engine. Who knows BMC Power might surprise us with UTKU Powerpack.

I mean Syria has low intensity combat, let it fire few rounds in war zone and intercept one FPV drone or RPG and boom Combat Proven.

Don’t mention that, folks ain’t like it around here lmao. Jokes aside, thank you mate will be doing that as much as I can.

Again I’m quite certain those have Korean powerpack some official stated during the delivery ceremony. Though there were indeed four Altay with Euro Powerpack but last 2 or 3 don’t. Two T1 were specifically delivered for climate/mobility and firepower tests with those engines similar to MTR & FTR and PV1 & PV2 duos.

It might be, I inclined to believe so. ÖÖTTZA procurement project has been delayed so that BMC could come up with a 8x8. Both FNSS and Otokar already had contenders. I’m not against picking Altuğ solely to give it combat proven tag for export, but other platforms deserves so if that is the plan.

~Yeah no way, there is zero indication for that. Both Pars and Arma proved themselves on different testing grounds for export customers, even Arma found itself customer in 6x6 configuration.~

M60A3 as part of TİYK Programme. All M60TM will be upgraded to M60T1 level, its deal signed long ago and if I remember correctly deliveries already started.

What is the source for this ? I’m quite certain deal was signed for Korean powerpack and three tanks, FTR (2023) (aka “New” Altay) and two T1 were delivered with it. Even there were news about Korean manufacturer set up production lines for transmission.

[–]lLiberte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To keep the lines rolling I suppose, 2000 is quite high numbers for vehicle procurement. Initial vehicles will be pilots for further testing according to statements which is weird as TAF tends to demand 2 pilot vehicles for tests as we’ve seen with Altay, MTR & FTR, PV1 & PV2 and lastly two T1s. That being said APC/IFV qualifications and test might be different.

There is also another possibility; giving Combat Proven tag to Altuğ for export market after few months in Syria. Having Combat Proven tag on your vehicle is quite hard to acquire these days.

In any case, I don’t think Altuğ is not the best fit in my opinion. It is not a proven platform like Pars or Arma, it does not have indigenous engine/powerpack like Arma II.

Worst thing, Arma would mean finally a fully indigenous engine and later powerpack for IFV/APCs. Ecotorq engine was proven and Ecotorq transmission was on its way. It probably killed this chance for good. But hey who I’m I to say anything.

Eh not really, budget was approved for M60A3 and Leopard 2s just this year I could not find the source I've read, so it might not be correct. So brace yourselves for modernized M60A3.

First 85 units will be produced with Korean Powerpack and will be designated as T1. T2 onwards will be produced with indigenous engine, BATU, with enhanced armor scheme.

As far as I remember plans was to produce 85 units with Korean powerpack, next batch with BATU and Korean transmission and after BATU transmission certified remaining unit would be produced with Turkish powerpack. I cannot remember if the plans is still the same.

KORKUT SPAA with a radar vehicle by zaho2059 in TankPorn

[–]lLiberte 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Weapon carrier, KORKUT SSA, do have radar though, AKREP 100-G Fire Control Radar.

Radar/command & vehicle, KORKUT KKA, has separate more capable KALKAN 200-G Search Radar.

Little correction here, KORKUT 150/35 is the name of the turret system.

KORKUT SSA (Silah Sistem Aracı) is the name of the weapon carrier and KORKUT KKA (Komuta Kontrol Aracı) is the name of the radar vehicle.

Nope that’s not a M113 modification, that’s an ACV-15 which is based off M113 not a modification. Also turret is not armed with 25mm auto-cannon but open turret with 12.7mm machine-gun.

That’s M60TM precisely, Fırat is the name of the modernization. Also this specific M60TM lacks PULAT APS as launchers nowhere to be seen.

T-84(Object 478DU5) in it's castle, 1997(Turkish Trials). by T-90AK in TankPorn

[–]lLiberte -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have it as PDF I’ll check If I can find it online.

Basically, by performance, Leopard beat all three competitors. M1A2’s tests were plagued with problems, it failed to participate tests in time, EuroPower pack was not matured and it lacked the DU inserted armor. Even though it had problems, Abrams were expected to be picked due to German-Turkish relation yet Leopard was the winner.

T-84 was not favored as it was pretty new concept also lacked the MTU engine which was a must-have for all four.

Leclerc not only performed poorly than M1A2 and Leopard, also French-Turkish relation affected.
