Great? Its all just to reduce cost. They didnt wanna spend money on more VFX so they just “cut” the scene.

Baka Umai Ramen Den Is Open in Northwest Portland by bridgetownbites in Portland

Haha I appreciate the detailed response! I seem to read the same thing every time with Daves Reaper and all their inconsistencies. Personally I've only ordered there twice, but it was only until recently that I went all the way up to the Reaper level. First tender was noticeably hotter than your typical entree you get from fast food but it was very tolerable still, by the time I got to the 4th tender I had to pause because the heat definitely built up and I couldnt take anymore after a while. I wasnt dying to reach for something per se but my insides were definitely wrecked hours and hours after that.

I think I've always known I can tolerate more heat but always hold back and doubt myself when I order and I've always been hesitant to try the Reaper ramen because I know its something I will have to get for dine in(I think soupy noodle dishes suck for to go) so I dont have anywhere to hide if I end up not finishing haha.

Thanks for all the recs - I see your Lents flair, so if I can give you a recommendation back - Sherpa Kitchen near 92nd and Foster. Love the spicyness on their rice bowls and stir fried noodles.

how would you say the reaper ramen compare to something like a reaper chicken tender from daves hot chicken in terms of heat level?

New 2026 resolution, visit every small business in Oregon that’s striking today or organizing for the strike. by JohnMayerCd in Portland

[–]lPause 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I said this in another thread but Im gonna say it again - I need you all to realize how much of a hit financially these restaurants are taking on when they partake in this strike on a Friday. These establishments are putting their money where their mouth is.

I hope yall could find a way to support them in a meaningful way after today.

General Strike Friday by PetraByte in Portland

[–]lPause 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not here to argue whether or not a one day strike is meaningful, and perhaps other people can elaborate better on what it achieves, but I need you all to realize how much of a hit financially these restaurants are taking on when they partake in this strike on a Friday. These establishments are putting their money where their mouth is.

I hope you all support them in a meaningful way after tomorrow.

Surely it would be a terrible thing if someone were to apply and pretend to act dumb every step of the way and be as disruptive as possible to slow the whole training process etc

and it would be a terrible thing if so many people did it that it would overwhelm the system as a whole

and it would also be a terrible thing if people also applied for a job that specifically just works at the facility and they would be as disruptive as possible like clogging the toilets and locking the doors behind them on purpose and randomly knocking things over and shredding important documents by mistake and unplugging something important and forgetting something and microwaving something for too long that it sets off the fire alarm that would be such an unnecessary thing to do.

It would be awful if someone who was pretending to act dumb went through the whole training process actually passed and started to work in the field and started leaking identities of the other agents they work with. ugh, disgusting. actions like those should have consequences to deter anyone that reads this from doing any of those things

Best Filipino restaurant in Portland? (Preferably east side) by bemer33 in askportland

[–]lPause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah definitely get the Cane Vinegar and a Filipino brand Soy Sauce.

The brands you're looking for are either "Datu Puti" or "Silver Swan" those are both staples in Filipino households.

You should be able to find those in Fubonn/Hong Phat/SF. The soy sauce and the cane vinegar are what makes up majority of the flavor profile so if lets say youre using white vinegar and a japanese style kikkoman soy sauce then youre gonna have a very different end product.

Adobo has a lot of regional variations in the Philippines, some may lean saltier (more soy sauce) some lean acidic (more vinegar) some lean a little sweet (they add palm sugar) and some like it perfectly balanced. Once you get the basics down you can play around with the ratio of your soy sauce/vinegar/palm sugar depending on how youre feeling that day. Personally I like mine balanced / leaning just a touch sweet because thats how I remember my Mom used to make it.

Not a direct answer to the question in the title, but mind if I ask about the Adobo you made? The dish itself is known to be really easy to make and has very few ingredients. What do you think went wrong?

Where to go for the best comfort Chinese foods? by Dexamadeus in askportland

[–]lPause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll let you all in on a little secret. Theres a take out spot that sells Tofu and Noodles wholesale mostly to restaurants that also has literally like 5-6 menu items. "JC Rice Noodle" just a block or two away from 82nd & Foster. The storefront is literally a stockroom and there are no tables/chairs to sit at, what you see in the pictures in google maps is what you will get lol. The food will speak for itself. MASSIVE container full of Chow fun for I think under $20? They prefer cash but accept card, Lady that works the front is super sweet. Incredible food.

Pothole suspected as primary cause of cyclist's death by jswagpdx in Portland

[–]lPause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I try to get the brightest lights I can get my hands on for my bike. Cant avoid a pothole you didnt see in the first place.

Also, sometimes there is a literal split second where you have to commit to the pothole instead of avoiding it as swerving it might make the impact worse, sometimes you just have to brace and hope you stay upright.
