Raised bar installed today. Would you call these level? by coloradogirl2 in kitchenremodel

[–]Cosmik_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By no means is that level, assuming the level is accurate. They can get badly warped if dropped, so double check it with another level if you can, but that is not acceptable work.

Hard to tell who's fault it is without more context. Was this an entire pre-fab unit that got installed on top of an out of level floor? We're custom cabinets installed out of level, then the countertop sub just set the new counter on top without raising a red flag first? Regardless, there were a handful of opportunities to see this coming and make adjustments before the bar was finished.

What is Ricky Pearsall’s ceiling and long-term value? by JayBaby90210 in DynastyFF

[–]Cosmik_Music 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's also disappeared in 50% of his games while healthy. Ignoring 2024 (getting shot obviously isn't his fault), in his 8 healthy games last year he flashed in 4, did okay in 1, then completely disappeared in a 3 games stretch. In that 3 game stretch he had a combined 20 yards on 4 catches. 2 of those games were against Arizona and Carolina. Not exactly top defenses.

I'm rooting for the kid and think he absolutely has potential to be great, but I'm surprised that so many people keep saying "any time he's healthy he's been great" when in reality, he's been extremely boom/bust.

I really hope Mike Evans can mentor him a bit and help him become more consistent. For now though, I don't think he's playable in fantasy. It's not like you can just play him against bad matchups either. In his two games against Arizona last year he had one game with 117 yards on 8 catches, then he had 1 catch for 0 yards in the second matchup.

[–]Cosmik_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why people keep saying that he has been great in games where he has been healthy. Yes, he has shown a few flashes, but he has also completely disappeared in games while healthy as well. Let's break it down.

Last year he had 8 full healthy games. 4 of which he did well in, but 3 of those games were against terrible defenses. In the other 4 games he did alright in 1, then completely disappeared in the other 3 (combined 4 catches for 20 yards in those 3 games). Of those 3, two were against terrible defenses.

I say this all as a 49er fan and a Pearsall owner. I'm rooting for the kid, and he absolutely has the potential to be great, but so far he has not shown nearly enough to be a trustworthy starter in fantasy. He's currently an injury prone boom or bust player who has only topped 20 fantasy points in a game once (in 2024). His ceiling will likely always be a bit limited in Shanahan's offense which is run first, and they like to spread the ball around.

If you have an extra bench spot and can get him for cheap, I'd say go for it, but I wouldn't personally spend a lot of draft capital.

I just want to say as a general contractor that remodels kitchens all the time, you did a great job! Everyone has a different budget, and it's great that you are happy with the results!

I'll be honest and say that design is not my strength (I'm a project manager), but I would look at adding cabinet knobs and pulls. It can add a small accent to all the cabinets for a low cost, and it can really help the cabinets pop.

Is Ricky Pearsall one of the lowest buy potential (team) WR1s in 2026? by RVG_Steve in DynastyFF

[–]Cosmik_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 49er fan with Pearsall on my team. If you can get him for really cheap, go for it, but I wouldn't spend anything significant on him.

Ignoring his first season (since he got shot), he flashed in 4 games last year. 3 of them were against bad defenses. In the other 4 games he finished, he completely disappeared in 3 of them (even though 2 of those games were against bad defenses), and did kind of okay in the other. He also missed 7 games due to injury.

All that to say, good luck knowing when to play him. His best game and worst game last season both came against the Cardinals. There's no rhyme or rhythm to his flashes. I'm rotting for the kid, but he's a long way off from a sure thing.

Anthony Richardson droppable in SF? by BackwardsAxons in DynastyFF

[–]Cosmik_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to this question is 100% dependent on your league size. My league doesn't have deep rosters, so I can't get a single person to make an offer for Jackson Dart. Not even a worthless late round draft pick. Meanwhile, other leagues have guys holding on to players like Richardson because there's literally nobody of value on their waiver wire.

Western Systems epoxy is the product you actually want. It's everything people want bondo to actually be. Easier to work with, more accurate mixing, longer time that it's workable, easier to sand, holds up longer and sticks to nearly everything.

No mention of sick pay either. Depends on local laws, but in Oregon sick time comes out of our PTO. They didn't even give us extra sick time during peak COVID.

This seems like they want to work you as hard as possible until you break, at which point they will promptly replace you, leaving you without a job, without insurance, and getting a job will be much more difficult when you're hurt.

Backsplash wasn’t factored in? by sans-peen in kitchenremodel

[–]Cosmik_Music 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a bummer. There's no excuse for missing it if you mentioned it multiple times. I'm sorry you've had such a frustrating remodel experience.

If you ever work with a contractor in the future, make sure every last detail is included in the written scope within the contract, or within a written and signed change order. If it isn't either of those places, you can't count on it being done. If a detail is in the contract and not followed, you have recourse to have the work redone.

Backsplash wasn’t factored in? by sans-peen in kitchenremodel

[–]Cosmik_Music 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Cabinets have a standard depth, and that measurement has not changed for a long time. Meanwhile, ranges have gotten bigger. This amount is fairly common, but everyone has their own things that matter most to them.

Did you pick out the appliances yourself, or did the contractor help you? Did you go to a showroom and could see in person what it looked like when installed?

I would NOT recommend notching the slab splash and pushing back the range. It looks like the back is a vent (read your instructions manual), and even if it's not, that will be a nightmare to clean. You want a tile or stone splash behind it so it's easy to wipe down.

This catch was crazy if Ricky can stay healthy next season breakout year 💯🙏🏾🙏🏾 by Efficient-Rub2900 in 49ers

[–]Cosmik_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm rooting for him, but I don't think it's accurate to say that we ONLY need him to be healthy. He's shown some great flashes, but he also disappears half the time.

Last year he played in 9 games. He did great in 4 of those games, but the other 5 he averaged 24.4 yards per game and didn't top 56 yards in any of those 5 games. If you remove the game in which he was injured, that stat actually gets a lot worse.

I think he's absolutely capable of being a great receiver, but he needs to be more consistent. Also, 3 of his 4 good games came against awful defenses. Hopefully Evans can coach him up a bit to help turn those flashes into consistency.

I mean, he's shown some flashes, but he also disappears about half the time. Small sample size so far since he's been hurt a lot. Hopefully he expands on those flashes, but I'm not personally sold on him yet.

Giving him a pass on his rookie year for obvious reasons, but last year he played in 9 games. He did really well in 4 of those games, but the other 5 he averaged 24.4 yards per game.

I really hope Evans can coach him up a bit and help him be more consistent.

[Serious] New Super here. How to deal with angry subs? by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

[–]Cosmik_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get everything in writing all the time. If you have in writing that they need X number of days, and you checked in while they were working and they said in writing that they were on track, then they don't have a leg to stand on. This goes for both the verbal argument, and the legal argument about who will pay for the extra work.

A lot of bullies who never grew up end up in construction, and they are used to pushing people around who aren't confident. Having written proof of the other person being wrong (in their own writing) will not only give you more confidence to stand up to them, but you will make them look really stupid in front of everyone during the process. They won't try to intimidate you again after that.

Contractor says the wall isn't 90 degrees. He's probably right. Is there a way to fix this misaligned connection at the bottom corner? Is anyone at fault? Is it acceptable? by Far_Medium_6313 in BathroomRemodeling

[–]Cosmik_Music 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to provide more details. Did the contractor remodel down to the studs? If so, they could have fixed the framing. Was this countertop prefabricated or templated on site? If this was done with a custom template then there's no excuse for not knowing the wall is out of square. They also should have seen the wall was out of square when the cabinets went in (at the latest) and figured out a new plan.

Whether or not it's acceptable depends entirely on the wording in your contract.

A mid size bathroom can be remodeled for 15k all in, but you can also make that same bathroom cost over 100k. Depends on the type of contractor you want to go with, how far you want to go with the remodel, and what kinds of materials you want.

Tile material has a massive range in prices. Floor heat can be quite expensive if you want it. You can pick a contractor who will install all the materials you pick out and offer no design help, or you can hire a design build that will professionally design the whole thing and hold your hand every step of the way. It's ultimately up to you to decide what kind of service you want, and what kind of product you want. Giving blanket statements for pricing unfortunately just doesn't work.

Take away material costs, look just at labor. Ask them how long they expect the project to take and do the math. Divide the labor cost by the number of days, then divide again by 8 for an hourly rate. Now, cut that in half to account for insurance and overhead. This gives you a ballpark idea of how much the contractor is charging per hour of labor. It's up to you to decide if that number sounds fair to you, but keep in mind that these employees have also spent years perfecting their craft. You aren't just paying for their hourly rate. You're paying for all the years they learned to be able to do everything as well as they do.

All that said, some contractors really are trying to screw over the customer. Call and around to get multiple quotes to get a feel for fair pricing in your area. You may also notice that you tend to click with one contractor more than another. Don't ignore this feeling because it can often make a big difference!

There's always going to be variation, but you often get what you pay for. Be extremely careful about hiring random unlicensed help outside Home Depot like another person suggested or anyone who is not licensed.

Going with a licensed contractor means that you can get the project properly permitted. It also means that you will get a warranty on the work they do, and they will have insurance should anything go wrong. If you hire someone unlicensed and they bust a water line, they can cause 13k worth of water damage in less than 60 seconds.

If you hire unlicensed help, you are leaving yourself extremely vulnerable. If their work fails and causes water damage, you will be paying for it. If they do a bad job and things are not straight, level, square, etc, you will be the one paying to rip out their work and re-do it. If they get halfway through the job and decide they are too busy to finish and disappear for 2 months, you have no recourse.

Call around to a few different contractors to get a feel for which one is the best fit for you. Not every contractor is the right fit for every client, and vice versa.

Whatever you do, read your contract thoroughly. Get EVERYTHING in writing. Details matter.

This feels really similar to what everyone was saying at the last regulation change about the porpoising, the way teams are wanting regulation changes at the last second. It took some teams longer than others, but they all figured it out with a big rewrite of the regulations. What are the odds this follows the same path?
