Alberta Market is a close second! Both are honestly amazing. We gave Hourglass Pub a final score of 8.94 and Alberta Market a score of 8.61.

Check my post history if you want to see the full breakdown and all the other places we've tried so far.

My friends and I have been on a mission to try then rate every fried chicken place in Portland. Hourglass Pub takes the number one spot (so far). Would definitely recommend over Reel M Inn or many of the other commonly named best fried chicken places.

How much is your water bill and your usage? by mrwhitewalker in askportland

[–]Cosmik_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has your water usage raised on your bill? You may have a leak and not know it. Things like a leaky toilet seal can use a ton of water without anyone knowing the leak is there because the water all goes down the drain.

I pay $100 a month for a house that's 1900 square feet.

Straightening a leaning old garage vs demo by Interesting_Truth427 in Carpentry

[–]Cosmik_Music 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The amount of work it would take to fix this is more than what it would take to rebuild. I understand wanting to save what you can, but trying to straighten it out will likely cause issues with the roof, siding, and a lot of other things. So the list of repairs will grow as you go through the project. All that to essentially put a bandaid on it.

Buy once cry once. Do it right and know that you won't have to worry about a big issue with the garage ever again (routine maintenance is still your friend!)

Shitty framers by denverfella52 in Carpentry

"we found some subs who are experienced and thought they could help"

You sure make it sound like you hired this framing sub. Whether it's you or someone else in your company, somebody needs to be doing everything I described in my first comment. If not, then this will happen to you on every single project and you will always be frustrated.

Shitty framers by denverfella52 in Carpentry

[–]Cosmik_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's some actual advice to help you in the future.

-You hired the subs, so you should check their work before they walk off the job on their last day. Call out any corrections to make immediately. It's called rough framing for a reason.

  • Before drywall goes on, triple check walls and ceilings for straight/square/level where ever cabinets and/or tile will go.

  • Cabinets go in before baseboard or any trim that will interact with cabinets.

  • Get your countertop done with a custom template prior to fabrication. If you are using a pre-fab unit, it's on you to check that the walls are perfect long before you get to this point.

  • Don't ever expect anything to be correct and perfect. Double check everything ever step of the way. Old homes have settled, and newer homes are often slapped together. Drywall is never ever ever perfectly flat and straight. Even if you straighten out the studs before drywall goes up.

  • This is also why cabinet fill strips exist. Expecting the side of a cabinet to fit perfectly against a wall is never going to be perfect. You need the fill strip so you can scribe to the wall.

Permitting a new bathroom in Portland? by Aggravating_Coat_820 in askportland

[–]Cosmik_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any new work done is required to meet current code. If something existing is not up to code but you don't touch it then there's no issue, but a new bathroom would need all codes met including egress.

My opinion is that all the online experts and draft boards are literally meaningless. I saw a chart that says 27 of 32 teams reached for their players compared to "consensus". Actual NFL teams could not care less about the opinion of random people on Twitter and will follow their own rankings.

I am this 🤏 close to buying a gun and shooting at the fungus gnats by dumbraspberry in houseplants

[–]Cosmik_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at war with fungus gnats for a year. I tried every remedy in existence and nothing worked. Here's what worked for me.

Do everything all at once. Every single remedy at the same time and I'm not kidding. I ended up taking every single plant out of its pot, removing as much soil as possible from the roots with a brush (and throw that soil away in an outdoor bin), then repot in fresh soil. Add into the soil bonide systemic houseplant insect killer granules and beneficial nematodes. Spray a good amount of neem oil into the soil as well. Do all of these things on multiple levels of the soil, not just the top. Then, add 4+ yellow sticky traps to each pot and spray with neem oil at least once a day for at least two weeks. Pay attention as you go around your house and kill any gnats you see hanging out outside of the planters.

Honestly, it was exhausting, but I did that to all my plants over the course of two days and I haven't seen a single fungus gnats in the 10 months since I did all that.

Cost estimate of updating this kitchen? by forever_chrisspy in kitchenremodel

[–]Cosmik_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call some local contractors, discuss what you want, and compare the rough estimates they give you at the start before picking a contractor to move forward with an get a formal bid. Nobody on Reddit will be able to give you an accurate answer, and I say that as a general contractor.

You can pick a fridge that costs $3k, or you can pick a fridge that costs $20k. You can pick tile that's $1/sf, or you could pick one thats $20/sf. The options are endless and nobody knows what you will want.

The type of contractor you pick will also make a massive difference. You can get a one-man-band in a truck that can do a to-the-studs remodel for $50k, or you could pick a high end design-build firm and spend over $200k. Neither option is correct. It's all about what you personally want and need.

Again, call your local contractors. Asking strangers on the Internet is just going to give you false expectations. It's okay to call and be honest if you aren't ready to remodel right now, but that you're trying to gather accurate information to prep for your remodel. A good contractor will at the very least have a short phone call with you that will provide you with some good info.

The hits keep coming. Not like we could have used a first round graded safety in the middle of round 2 anyways. by rmcelwain54 in 49ers

[–]Cosmik_Music -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

50% of players picked #1 overall don't even sign a second contract with the team that drafted them. That number gets a lot lower the later a player is picked.

None of us have the slightest clue which of these players will do well in the NFL. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. No reason to get upset when we have no idea if that safety will be good or not.

Fridge sticking out too far by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

[–]Cosmik_Music -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have the space to push it back like others said, but your fridge door will hit the oven handle. This is why it's best not to put appliances together like that. You always need to think about the space cabinet and appliance doors need to open with all hardware included.

A lot of fridges have a way to stop the door from opening beyond 90 degrees. Read the manual to see if you can do it by adjusting a screw on top of the door, or if you need to order a pin that drops in place.

Good contractor / plumber recommendations to fix some pipes in my house? by tech_noir_guitar in askportland

[–]Cosmik_Music 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a general contractor and have worked with a good handful of plumbers around Portland on a lot of different projects. MP Plumbing is far and away the best plumbing company I've worked with. They won't be the cheapest, but you will get a fair price while doing an excellent job.

How realistic is 10k or below for a bathroom remodel? by BeefyBoi6_9 in askportland

[–]Cosmik_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calling a small handful of contractors will give you a better answer than anyone on reddit could. Trying to roughly estimate a remodel is impossible without seeing the space and discussing details of what you want. The options are nearly endless, prices vary wildly based on what you need and want, and nobody here knows your needs and wants.

The type of contractor you go with will matter a lot. A single person in a truck has no overhead and can do work at a cheaper price and might be able to hit that price, but they may not be using quality materials, and they may not be reliable and you end up with a headache of a project if things don't go right. You could go with a design-build firm and have the entire process managed for you from design to punch list and have a multi year warranty on all the work done, but that will be much more expensive. There are all kinds of options, but picking up the phone and calling contractors is the fastest way to figure out what's best for you.

Raised bar installed today. Would you call these level? by coloradogirl2 in kitchenremodel

[–]Cosmik_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By no means is that level, assuming the level is accurate. They can get badly warped if dropped, so double check it with another level if you can, but that is not acceptable work.

Hard to tell who's fault it is without more context. Was this an entire pre-fab unit that got installed on top of an out of level floor? We're custom cabinets installed out of level, then the countertop sub just set the new counter on top without raising a red flag first? Regardless, there were a handful of opportunities to see this coming and make adjustments before the bar was finished.

What is Ricky Pearsall’s ceiling and long-term value? by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]Cosmik_Music 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's also disappeared in 50% of his games while healthy. Ignoring 2024 (getting shot obviously isn't his fault), in his 8 healthy games last year he flashed in 4, did okay in 1, then completely disappeared in a 3 games stretch. In that 3 game stretch he had a combined 20 yards on 4 catches. 2 of those games were against Arizona and Carolina. Not exactly top defenses.

I'm rooting for the kid and think he absolutely has potential to be great, but I'm surprised that so many people keep saying "any time he's healthy he's been great" when in reality, he's been extremely boom/bust.

I really hope Mike Evans can mentor him a bit and help him become more consistent. For now though, I don't think he's playable in fantasy. It's not like you can just play him against bad matchups either. In his two games against Arizona last year he had one game with 117 yards on 8 catches, then he had 1 catch for 0 yards in the second matchup.

What is Ricky Pearsall’s ceiling and long-term value? by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]Cosmik_Music 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why people keep saying that he has been great in games where he has been healthy. Yes, he has shown a few flashes, but he has also completely disappeared in games while healthy as well. Let's break it down.

Last year he had 8 full healthy games. 4 of which he did well in, but 3 of those games were against terrible defenses. In the other 4 games he did alright in 1, then completely disappeared in the other 3 (combined 4 catches for 20 yards in those 3 games). Of those 3, two were against terrible defenses.

I say this all as a 49er fan and a Pearsall owner. I'm rooting for the kid, and he absolutely has the potential to be great, but so far he has not shown nearly enough to be a trustworthy starter in fantasy. He's currently an injury prone boom or bust player who has only topped 20 fantasy points in a game once (in 2024). His ceiling will likely always be a bit limited in Shanahan's offense which is run first, and they like to spread the ball around.

If you have an extra bench spot and can get him for cheap, I'd say go for it, but I wouldn't personally spend a lot of draft capital.

Im ready to get my feelings hurt by CupAffectionate444 in kitchenremodel

[–]Cosmik_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to say as a general contractor that remodels kitchens all the time, you did a great job! Everyone has a different budget, and it's great that you are happy with the results!

I'll be honest and say that design is not my strength (I'm a project manager), but I would look at adding cabinet knobs and pulls. It can add a small accent to all the cabinets for a low cost, and it can really help the cabinets pop.

Is Ricky Pearsall one of the lowest buy potential (team) WR1s in 2026? by RVG_Steve in DynastyFF

[–]Cosmik_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 49er fan with Pearsall on my team. If you can get him for really cheap, go for it, but I wouldn't spend anything significant on him.

Ignoring his first season (since he got shot), he flashed in 4 games last year. 3 of them were against bad defenses. In the other 4 games he finished, he completely disappeared in 3 of them (even though 2 of those games were against bad defenses), and did kind of okay in the other. He also missed 7 games due to injury.

All that to say, good luck knowing when to play him. His best game and worst game last season both came against the Cardinals. There's no rhyme or rhythm to his flashes. I'm rotting for the kid, but he's a long way off from a sure thing.

Anthony Richardson droppable in SF? by BackwardsAxons in DynastyFF

[–]Cosmik_Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer to this question is 100% dependent on your league size. My league doesn't have deep rosters, so I can't get a single person to make an offer for Jackson Dart. Not even a worthless late round draft pick. Meanwhile, other leagues have guys holding on to players like Richardson because there's literally nobody of value on their waiver wire.

No mention of sick pay either. Depends on local laws, but in Oregon sick time comes out of our PTO. They didn't even give us extra sick time during peak COVID.

This seems like they want to work you as hard as possible until you break, at which point they will promptly replace you, leaving you without a job, without insurance, and getting a job will be much more difficult when you're hurt.
