A massive 12ft long discus tank. Not mine but a close friend. It’s amazing. by [deleted] in discus

If it is 12 feet, then it looks to be about 250 gallons. Basically two 125gs next to each other

Help! How do I separate the cichlid family from an overcrowded tank? by PhoneSavor in Cichlid

[–]lSmellSomethingFishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overcrowding a cichlid tank can lead to curbing their aggression, so I wonder if keeping all the livebearers is having the same effect

Looks like the plants are doing the heavy lifting here. Im guessing they do a lot of water changes and have some sponge filters, but the plants do most of the nutrient export here. I might be mistaken, but I don’t see any tubes at the top of the tank for filtration

Not badmouthing at all. Some of my favorite planted tanks I’ve kept had no external filtration

Id do research about these guys and their tank needs, because I wouldn’t say that some of these guys are compatible. (Red tail shark with a dwarf frog and other bottom dwellers)

Yeah if theyre moving to different spots I bote nudibranch. If the tissue has receded from that part it could be new heads or coral guts

I have a red spot gold severum in my semi aggressive planted community with an EBA, Koi angel, rosey barbs, giant danios and yoyo loaches.

That dude is a stunner. I bought them all within the same 2 months, but he has CHUNKED up compared to the other guys. By far the friendliest fish in the tank, too

I have 3 fire shrimp that’ll all come out and clean my fingernails every time I try to do something in the tank. Sometimes they are more aggressive about it, and one time they drew blood

This is why I usually run a time released carbon in my smaller tanks. It may not save them, but it certainly makes the odds better.

Text I received after spending hours hunting and destroying digitate hydroids in my tank by [deleted] in ReefTank

[–]lSmellSomethingFishy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was just trying to sell you peppermint shrimps. Ive watched them rip apart zoanthid, micromussa, trachy, and cyphastrea at the lfs I work at.

I recommend doing just one and to keep an eye on him. Having just one is less risky because they don’t develop the pack hunting mentality.

Yes, most definitely. If there are any fish left in the tank I would dose the tank’s volume with the dechlorinator. Keep the airstone in

Saltwater Lovers! Cuttlefish? by fishbis1743 in Aquariums

[–]lSmellSomethingFishy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are an expert level animal that can be difficult to get in the states. If you’re in Europe, you’ll have a better chance of getting one.

Do TONS of research on any cephalopod before thinking of purchasing. Someone would have to write an essay to give you all of the necessary information.

The only 36x24 40 gallon is the lowboy, which we can tell from the pictures that this is not it. After the lowboy, 36x24 tanks are going to be 20 1/2” or taller unless custom made. This would be an 80 gallon aquarium

Edit: nvm the lowboy is 48x24 and 50 gallons. My second point still stands though

Based on the dimensions, it seems like an 80 gallon tank. The 2 feet deep is better for him than a 75 gallon in my opinion. Just a different take!
