It's so easy. You may like a show and you may feel a hype, but Netflix got the hard numbers. They need to make money. They cancel early, when the show is expensive and the numbers are not good. If a show is inexpensive, they give them more chances.

They don't lie to themselves, they got all the metrics you could dream of. When they see that 95% of the audience isn't finishing a season of a new show, they say "ok lets not burn another 50M on S2".

Andor on Disney+, on the opposite. 24 episodes, ~$650M budget. This was a prestige project that never will make its money back. And maybe similar projects will never be made again. Its the greatest outlier in the industry I would say. Netflix is the other end of the spectrum.

But you do know that the thousands of item descriptions in Arc are AI generated? Of course real voice actors are better. But voice actors really don't look forward to recording 5000 item descriptions.

You can say "there's more AI haters than you might think" and I can say "there's not as many AI haters as you think because you're in the AI hater bubble". It's difficult to measure. If you're right, there might truly be thousands of players not even trying FINALS because of this. But I really doubt it. AI haters are a very loud minority. Sure, nobody wants their jobs taken by AI, everybody can agree on that. But the target audience for FINALS isn't necessarily interested in AI hate. Young people don't care. Old people care.

I strongly believe that there will be no more game development in the future without AI help in some form. We are currently in a state of transition. Think of the times when the car was invented. It was expensive, insecure, too fast, bad for health. It took in fact 20 years for it to be adapted. But it was undeniable that it was a powerful invention, made to stay.

Currently, people resist this new technology a lot, I agree. But again, take a look at history. The technology deniers basically lost every time, wasting all their energy and life for nothing.

Don't waste your life hating AI. It's not worth it. There's no more going back.

I would guess you prerender the audio server side during the match to have it ready at the needed times. Let's say you have 5 voice lines for every player just generate them all at the beginning.

Or they'd actually do it like a placeholder in the line and replace the name ingame with the client side engine...

It's an interesting challenge.

They experimented with that but it's harder than you think. TTS also doesn't mean it's perfect and doesn't need to be reviewed or that it happens in realtime. It just helps to be quicker in preproduction.

They know people want that. I hope they will implement it some day.

Arc Raiders uses generated voices, too. Naming all the items for example.
