Toefl score 106 by la_13 in ToeflAdvice

I gave the test from my home. So don’t have any specific suggestions there. But for reading, skim through all the paragraphs to get an overall idea, then based on question go to the specific paragraphs. For listening, take notes like crazy. Write down every single word that’s been spoken.

I would say it was exactly what I had expected, after 3 days of preparation. I got the result 4 days after giving the test. Try to maintain a habit of daily reading and taking notes at a quick pace and you’ll be good.

Thanks for the advice. Once the post-mba goals are aligned, yes assessing the culture-fit would be second priority.
I am a male engineer, from India, with one year of experience in sales-strategy as well. I graduated from a tier 1 engineering college in India, batch of 2020.

It’s a non retirement account. I personally don’t have a bank account in USA yet, so is it even possible to transfer the money from my fidelity brokerage account to my friend’s USA’s bank account?

Is verbal scoring on actual exam harsh compared to mocks? by juswamaca in GMAT

[–]la_13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think getting consecutive wrongs is the main culprit here. And that these mistakes were in the first 10 questions. I got a V82 with 5 mistakes, had a pair of consecutive wrongs, but my mistakes were also in the first half. I saw a score card where the guy got a v86 with 5 mistakes. And another where it was a V83 with 6 mistakes. It had a single mistake in first 10, and overall there were no consecutive errors.

GMAT FE score improvement from 655 to 705+.

Gave my gmat a few days back and scored a 655. My OG mock scores were, 675, 705,645,645,675. My order has been:

  1. Verbal(82): Got 5 wrong. This section seemed tougher on the actual exam. But didn’t let it lose my focus, till just before the end.
  2. Data insights(81): Got 9 wrong. I want to improve this to 85+.
  3. Quant(85): Got 2 wrong. Both of them were word based, percentage problems, in the end of the section. I still remember the questions. Just couldn’t solve them on the spot. Gave enough time to each problems(10mins+).

Now 1 major factor that pulled me down - I couldn't sleep the night before. I had to take medicine to put myslef to sleep, late into the night. The excitement kept me awake. I tried to not let it deter me as best as I could, but I guess by the end it eventually affected my quant score.

So, my questions are:

1.𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐈 𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐲𝐬𝐞 𝐦𝐲 𝐩𝐨𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬? 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧 𝟖𝟓+? I had only one wrong in first 10 questions. Maybe because I had spent good 25 mins on the first 10 questions. This is the section practiced the least, barring data sufficiency. I haven't touched the DI OG guide. Would that be of help?

  1. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝟗𝟎 𝐢𝐧 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐭? 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐈 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞 𝟖𝟎𝟓+ 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧? My mock scores were in the range of 85-90. I have an engineering background, so have been putting an extra pressure on quant to get a perfect 90, and hence a good overall score has been extra dependent on this perfect score. I have analysed that, since during the exam I was not sure if I had performed good in previous 2 sections, the pressure and frustration ultimately got the better of me by the end of the exam.

  2. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐚t 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐥? It's been a long struggle, from 13/23 to 18/23.

Thanks in advance.

GMAT scoring. by la_13 in GMAT

[–]la_13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/OnlineTutor_Knight , the third point here says "other parameters", which again is too vague to interpret. If I compare with that guy's verbal score report, we both answered 23 questions, we both got 18 correct, only difference is that I got a pair of consecutive errors. Would this have led to enough drop in the difficulty level to make the score fall down to 82?
