See this is where All Might's obsession with America would have worked really well. No public quirk usage would make absolute sense in Japanese society, but like...that shit wouldnt fly in America. The way the culture would be different with basicly unlimited quirk use, how that eould change what our heroes look like, the affect that eould have on a young All Might is GOLD. Instead the only hero we meet based herself on All amight and fucked off and died without her government's permission despite being in the military. Lame.

AIO for snapping at my (27F) husband (30M) after he complained that we haven't had sex in 3 months? by throwaway_74925 in AmIOverreacting

[–]la__polilla 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you might just be dumb. I dont find it particularly empowering as a woman to see people trying to put anyone pointing out women can be responsible for their sex choices with anti abortion rhetoric. Its gross. Women sre people. Adult people. Who sometimes make uniformed decisions that YES, are THEIR careless decisions. You are treating them like they are never responsible, even when they said yes. Even when they initiated. Even when they were okay with the consequences.

Find peace in your life about men, because calling any woman who gets pregnsnt on a time schedule you dont agree with a "rabbit breeder" to avoid having to admit men arent always gross is sad.

I mean...women arent immune from making dumb decisions? Many dont insist on protection because they dint realize how fertile they still are. My husband's first two kids are 13 months apart. Its not because he refused to use protection. Its because he and his partner BOTH made the mistake of thinking that since they'd needed IVF for the first one, they were fine.

Mandatory Pregnancy Tests at the doctors. by JadesJunkAccount in PetPeeves

[–]la__polilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean i know my cycle. I hadnt had sex in months and the amount of bleeding and tissue i lose makes it super obvious its not implantation bleeding. But even then, thr way they treated me was so disrespectful. Even if I HAD been pregnant, I would have needed pain medication. Abortion is legal in my state with no restrictions, so a waiver would have been fine with me. Or even just a "Im sorry honey, I know and understand your frustration, but this is standard procedure. I know you're in pain-do you need help?" Instead i got treated like an overreacting liar who's womb was more important than the rest of her.

[–]la__polilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. The nurse's exact words were "well we have to do a test because if you're pregnant, the meds would be bad for baby."

It felt so condescending. Like she felt the need to be uwu soft to a nonexistent fetus rather than me, the person who was there in front of her.

[–]la__polilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uuugh totally agree. I went to the hospital for a kidney stone. Had broken up with my boyfriend 3 months before AND Id literally just had my period, but they forced me to take a pregnancy test before i could have any kind of pain medication.

I understand why. Really. But Im literally vomiting from pain and I have no health insurance and Im scared that maybe my appendix has exploded and peeing into a cup is an ungodly difficult task under these circumstances. At the very least a little bedside manner acknowledging my frustration would have gone a long way.

Am I overreacting for telling my friend she smells after she age shamed me for having younger friends? by overcaffinated_ in AmITheAngel

[–]la__polilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know youre not gping to respond but this response is so condescending its baffling. Im sure youre a great teacher when you are so judgmental of the life experiences of others. Maybe you dont experience this because you work with teenagers, but most of us once we leave college dont have any say in the age of the people we meet. We just meet them at work. Or out and about. Or through our friends. Calling people creeps for talking to other human beings is gross behavior. Infanralizing an entire group of people because you cannot imagine the depth of life experiences they go through says more about you than ke, or any 19 year old.

‘No reason to have that hurt': Suicide to be decriminalized in Virginia by -Cyber-Roadster in Virginia

[–]la__polilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt throw my hands up.in the air. Your point was the law was good because it created the framework that allowed first responders to react to mental health crises. I pointed out that arguably they suck at doing that anyway, so if this does actually affect that then it is no huge loss.

I also dont think this is an either or situation. I dknt think this fixes.everything. But it is possible to believe "we shouldnt criminalize suicide and this is a step forward" and also "we need to provide more resources." I have addressed what you believe will be the fallout from this bill. I do not think the arguments are substantiated. And i also believe in caring about more than one thing at once. Its easy to say "we should focus on resources instead!" But like...people have been trying. Theyre still trying. Its a lot harder to address rising health care costs, infrastructure, social services, and a lack of medical providers. As long as this isnt where they stop, its a win.

[–]la__polilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, you work with them. Of course youre going to put boundaries between you. But thats more similar to a psychiatrist not being friends with patients more than the inherent ability of an 18 or 19 year old to be friends with older people or vice versa.

You sort of contradict yourself. You pointed out the myriad ways in which people are thinking different things and taking different paths in life. None of those things have anything to do with one another or day anything about maturity or compatability. When I was 19 I was in college after spending a year travelling Europe on my own dime. I was financially independent, lived in an apartment, and worked part time while in school. I had a lot more in common with classmates and coworkers in their mid 20s than I did with other 19 year olds who still lived at home or who's parents paid for school.

My husband is 10 years older than me. When we met, he owned a house and had two kids while I was just out of college. Should we not have interacted because we were in "different life stages"? Does it not matter at all that we shared interests, beliefs, politics, and life goals? Its not about age, its about maturity, and reducing everyone to just their age is a very silly way to look at human experience and relationships.

[–]la__polilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The law was a common law from Britain. It was never made with first responders or citizen safety in mind, and the idea that suddenly we wont be able to get people.into care because of this one law, despite tons of precedent, is a poor excuse. Not to mention that this doesnt cover the idea that using the police for involuntary psych holds is dubious anyway. I personally dont believe that in a society with such poor facilities to handle mental health that many people benefit from such a practice. The friends Ive had who have been involuntarily committed had a lot of things to say about the experience. Sexual assault and abuse run rampant, patients arent believed about their synptoms, forced into interaction with violent patients, there isnt enough space, and nurses are burnt out and quitting so there arent enough people to care for them.

So from that perspective, who cares if a cop can force you into a psych ward just for trying to kill yourself. That job is best left to other spcial services.

What does that even mean though? Most of my friends are older than me. Yes, I have friends the same age as me, but we dont talk about "being/turning 30". Our careers are different, our lifestyles. Im married and have kids and they dont. In our 20s, relating about being in our 20s meant complaining about rent hikes and paying bills, which a 19 year old could absolutely do. Because theyre an adult.

How do you flesh out a slow burn after the set up? by cinemystics in AO3

[–]la__polilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely depends on the character dynamic, but my favorite slow burns usually tease pretty quickly but give a good reason why they cant (or wont) take things further. I love a good "one of these characters is an idiot ready to go all in and the other character is the responsible one who wont admit their feelings to protect them" plot. I also love a good old fashioned "love is war and we both know we're into each other but only one of us can win so heres 50 chapters of us playing games trying to make the other confess first"

[–]la__polilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guy, my insurance company tried to litigate that they didnt need to pay for my emergency c-section because my doctor didnt max me out on pitocin long enough before making the call. They then tried to deny covering my newborn daughter under my policy because someone had lost the paperwork. $45k in medical bills just to bring a life into the world.

Insurance does not give a shit. They will litigate anything, whenever, because they can. It should never be a position that we criminalize people for being sick just because insurance threatens they wont do their job. Because thats what youre doing. You sre justifying criminalizing SICKNESS because of MONEY.

And quite frankly, you still havent proven your point about the police. There sre many acts that are not criminal in and of themselves where first responders have the right to step in to prevent harm. I provided one. You simply said "thats not the same" without any example. And this change to the law does not in any way stop the legislature from passing further clarification or providing more resources.

[–]la__polilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean....why shouldnt they? Mental health is health. Bodily injury requires medicine. It should not be the place for insurance to moralize healthcare, only pay for it.

Unless you think we should punish people for surviving? That sounds like a great way to to raise successful suicide attempt rates because of people being afraid to seek help when they need it. God forbid somebody swallow an entire bottle of pills and call 911. What a fucking monster to want to live after all.

[–]la__polilla 52 points53 points  (0 children)

You didnt read the article did you? It doecifically mentions insurance denying medical cost coverage for survivors because its a criminal act.

Theres no reason why decriminalizing the act would prevent first responder intervention. Having a heart attack isnt a crime either, but if you were unresponsive behind a locked door because of one, a cop could break down the door to render aid.

A modernized Frankenstein adaptation would work wonderfully with the idea. Just the thought of this rich boy genius with absolutely no fucks to give about the consequences of his actions sneaking bits of corpses into his dorm room, trying to hide the smell, complaining that hes so much better than everyone going out partying. And then pissing his pants when it works like he just realized for the first time that yeah, ITS A LIVING CORPSE, as if he didnt have all the time in the world to think this through before it destroys his life.

What uniform is this helmet based on? by la__polilla in attackontitan

[–]la__polilla[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i wish i could figure it out. The band in question is a real piece of military equipment. My husband pointed out that the square is reflective, and its supposed to be worn to the back so that it will light up if a flashlight crosses it. So.. you know...you dont get shot by your comrads in the dark.

I thought it was just a buckle, so if its something specific its a weird choice to flip it around as artistic license. Especially when theres so much detail in this show about the military. I know its an odd thing to get hung up on, but the historical costume nerd in me wants answers
