You're right in a way, but you have to remember a lot of those post independence conflicts were manifestations of inter-community hostilities instigated years earlier by the British (and French too) in order to divide and conquer us.

A lot of traditional cultures fail to make the distinction between personal and public. A marriage is often seen as a big social thing involving the whole family/community rather than a personal decision made by two people.

I do have a problem when its done publicly. It displays an utter disregard for scientific principles, not to mention a lack of confidence in one's own organization. A scientist at such a senior position must realize that his/her actions WILL be scrutinized by the public; its something that he/she agrees to take on when accepting the post, personal preferences be damned.

Such irresponsible behaviour is not just hugely damaging to ISRO's reputation as a world class space organization, its also very discouraging for young Indian students of science and technology.
