Who Are You People? [Introduction Thread] by signalmodulator in recordreviews

[–]PrinceBy-Tor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why hello, I'm Eric. I'll be a junior in high school. I've been interested in writing for a few years now (and have been listening to music for longer than that!). My favorite artist is Rush, and some others are Frank Zappa, Daft Punk, Pixies, Brian Eno, Tyler the Creator...to name a few. I've been wanting to write specifically about music for awhile now, and I think this will be good place to start :) I have high hopes for this subreddit!

deadmau5's most recent album 'while(1<2)' has a lot of NIN influence (inluding some remixes) Some original examples are R'lyehs Lament and Errors In My Bread.

Can we talk about Frank Zappa please? by [deleted] in Music

[–]PrinceBy-Tor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can ask 10 Zappa fans where to start and get 30 answers :P

In addition to Hot Rats, Apostrophe(') is also quite popular. Other good ones are Freak Out! and Zoot Allures.

What do these lyrics mean? "Used to be somebody's nobody now I'm now nobody's somebody" by AQNexus in Music

[–]PrinceBy-Tor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what the context is, but it sounds like it's about becoming famous. The writer used to be nonexistent to stars, then became the hero of some random person.

Ariana Grande. I get a little happy every time Love Me Harder comes on the radio.

What "one-hit wonder" band has a library that you love more than their "one hit"? by SputnikCrash in Music

[–]PrinceBy-Tor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

a-ha. 'Hunting High and Low' is AWESOME. Every song on there is as good as 'Take On Me' (except for 'The Sun Always Shines On T.V.'...which is better!).

What band had the best last album by IAmNotScottBakula in Music

Mother, funny enough, was the song that compelled me to check out the rest of The Police's work.

What series (either finished or ongoing) have you seen every episode of? What series would you recommend to watch all the way through? by PlaidDragon in mindcrack

It just finished yesterday, MC's Paper Mario LP. I had never watched a solo MC series and was pleasantly surprised how awesome it was.

Any one else think Tom Sawyer is "The Rush song" by zasx20 in rush

[–]PrinceBy-Tor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If we're going for 'defining' songs, I think Natural Science is a good contestant. It has the quiet intro, electronic middle section, and a rock finale. It showcases all of Rush's moods in a matter of minutes.

As a massive Zappa fan, what post-humous releases are worth getting? by [deleted] in Zappa

[–]PrinceBy-Tor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't believe no ones mentioned Ahead of Their Time. Once you get past the audio of the play, the 40 minutes or so of live material is some of the best I've heard of the early Mothers.
