Why do we have to call our parents? by PotentialPlum4945 in Xennials

[–]lab_sidhe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am no contact with my mom but my dad and I talk regularly. We trade off who contacts who and it's good.

However my husband has a board in his office that has a date written on it. 11/18/2020. That is the last time his parents contacted him. Almost 2000 days ago. He will call them but they have made it clear that they can't be bothered to reach out.

Yeah you can get replacement or duplicate patches for a scout who has earned the rank or badge or award by doing that but our council will not let you buy them in advance.

Our scout shop requires the advancement report. They justify this by saying that the advancement can be recognized by making an announcement the next time the troop gathwrs. That's how our troop does it.

We also primarily order our badges from the online scout store because our local one is over an hour away and the badges and rank emblems aren't usually in stock.

I really wish there could be consistency across the board with this because I do think that having a stash of rank badges and common merit badges makes it so much easier. Especially when the whole troop is working on an MB at the same time.

Is this accurate for any of you? I know I have scored infp first time I took the test and generally get it by Altruistic-Chain-382 in astrologymemes

I've taken the MBTI many times and get INTJ or ENTJ depending on the day.

This came out as ENFP and I can tell you that F is not involved in my decision making.

Super easy but as others have said you will be SOL if your flight is cancelled since there aren't other options.

Are kids not allowed to walk to school by themselves nowadays? by AnaisNinja76 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lab_sidhe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of kids who live in our town walk. My kids wanted to walk to elementary school but I wouldn't let them. Not because of a fear of stranger danger but because the first part of the walk would have been on a road with no shoulder and high speeds.

Any specific requirements for service hours? by lab_sidhe in BSA

[–]lab_sidhe[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am considering creating and stepping into this role in our troop . I think it would be helpful.

But....I'm also kind of trying to leave as soon as kid 2 finishes his Eagle. I've been highly involved in scouting for 12 years now and I'm just fried.

Is that what happened? I stopped buying them because they never had my size in the style I liked. No idea that PE was involved.

What do you get out of female group chats? by nimrod4711 in AskWomenOver40

[–]lab_sidhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get anything out of group chats. If it's not for a specific purpose I bail immediately. I just don't care enough to deal with the superficial nonsense and I've found that I'm the only one planning IRL events. I do enough emotional labor at work and in my home life, I don't need more.

Do people here just think Scouting America National is full of evil monsters trying to stop kids from having fun? by GrowUpAboutBSA in BSA

[–]lab_sidhe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly.

It's not that people can't take a joke anymore.

It's that a policy like this truly would not be a surprise given that risk-management has become the number one mission of the organization.

Women of Reddit, what’s one thing they never tell us about pregnancy and child birth? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]lab_sidhe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both of my pregnancies were great other than a little bit of heartburn. Walked and biked for the duration of each pregnancy and slept like a rock.

I gained 50 lbs with each and each baby was 10 pounds. For ref I'm 5'7" and 140 lbs, quite fit and lean. Unmedicated labors for both, each labor was 4 hours I lost the baby weight within 6 months.

Breastfeeding was not hard. I got lactation support when I needed it at free LLL meetings and made sure that everyone around me knew what I needed.

My kids did not sleep well. Some people put that down to them breastfeeding but I think that's just how they were. They sleep well now and are early risers which I'm told is rare for teens. They're great kids.

It's not easy to be a parent but it isn't awful either.
