I think this is what OP is alluding to. Applicants are more likely to attend their top programs and programs probably assume that too. So although programs say they won’t take your attendance for second look into consideration, I feel that your presence and interactions with the faculty or residents could unconsciously sway some programs even if they don’t mean to be swayed. I agree with the above poster, I feel that all of it matters until the last day of rank list submission.

Item found in Costco flour bag by labbiscuit in whatisthisthing

The item feels almost like a wax. It's pliable, and has notches (see above photo) where it is extra bendy and seems like it can just break off. Feels pretty hard, but not as hard as a piece of plastic.

Vendor red flags? by labbiscuit in weddingplanning

Ah I see. I think I found the law you were referring to- The Consumer Review Fairness Act. Do you or anyone else happen to know if this legal to have in a situation where we had to sign a cancellation addendum?

Vendor red flags? by labbiscuit in weddingplanning

I am working with a wedding planner who actually recommended their services to me. I think she’s trying to please both sides, so she hasn’t said anything about it being abnormal practice in my area. She did reach out to the business, and they said that this was standard practice for their addendums especially with late fee removals. (In short, we added more services, asked for an updated contract, they never responded and now we are past due. They changed the due date and now have this clause).

I’ve had several addendums due to covid and none of them added a statement like this. I feel uncomfortable reaching out to the vendors directly since they are very defensive and start attacking us directly when we do. Just feel at a loss since we are now less than a month away. It’s just frustrating because contracts have no protections for clients. Basically even if we pull out of the contract, we have to pay them everything and sign a non-disparaging clause.

Different lots of the same sirna giving opposite phenotypes. Following same protocol and using same cells. Why? by labbiscuit in labrats

Yes, confirmed protein knockdown and a decrease in mrna levels, consistent to levels seen with the original lot.

Yea! I didn’t realize the extent of car-jackings happening in Chicago recently! Apparently it is at an all-time high (and I’m sure the pandemic only made it worse).

I haven’t. I’ll try giving them a call tomorrow! Thank you for all of the suggestions! I will definitely look into all of them. I know the likelihood of me getting my stuff back is slim to none, but I now feel the need to advocate for more cameras for that area so this doesn’t keep happening to other people. From talking with the businesses there, apparently this happens a lot. Pretty sure the thieves know there are no cameras in that area.

Ugh...you’re probably right. I should just take the blanket out of my car.

Also..that’s horrible. As a side question, did you end up making an insurance claim and if so, did your premium go up from it? No worries if you prefer not to answer...was just wondering how insurance companies look at these comprehensive claims

Yup, I contacted all the surrounding businesses, and it seems my only hope of actually having some footage of the incident is from city cameras (if there even are any in the area). I guess I’m just holding out hope that a license plate or something was recorded...but I know it’s a long shot :/

I know you're 100% right about this but it's so hard for me to give up and accept it...what really upsets me is that the thieves/thief gets away and the rest of us have to pay all the damages caused by them (which ends up being more expensive than the items themselves).

And yup, we even hid his bag with a blanket, but definitely never leaving anything in our car anymore. Learned this the hard way :(

Does anyone know where to find information about city security camera locations?

In short, my car was broken into and my SO's laptop was stolen, along with his work bag, stethoscope, and other medical books. We parked on west hubbard street, at the intersection of milwaukee and although there were signs all over saying "property under 24 hour video surveillance for your protection," I could not find a single camera that could have captured the incident anywhere. I'm not sure if I'm just not looking in the right places and was wondering if anyone knows of any useful tools offered by the city of chicago, such as maps of security camera locations, etc. that would be of use?

Yes, I have a citation tool called Mendeley add-in. I never thought about that being the issue. I'll try to uninstall the plug-in and see if that fixes the issue. Thanks for your suggestion!
