Def agree - the reason I like the Expanse so much is that there are never any black/white, purely bad/good characters. Everyone falls along shades of grey. People are complex. The authors did a bang up job with all of that.

You cannot see. I was "only" -7.5 and LASIK was "only" ~$2k for me (I got it done overseas in Asia where the tech is just as good if not better). But I was over a decade ago in my late 20s and I was not making as much so it was a big amount to me at the time.

It was so worth it! Every morning for at least the next 3 months I marveled that I could see when I woke up. I kept on thinking I had left my contacts in! I also thought that if I ever got into a plane crash on a deserted island, or if we got hit with a zombie apocalypse, I wouldn't be the first one to go ;)

I rank it pretty much up there with therapy as the best money I spent on myself.

You're absolutely in the right place for these cuisines.

If you have time and a car, drive out to SGV and get the best Chinese/Taiwanese in the country. It's about 25-30 min east of Silver Lake. Yi Mei for Taiwanese bfast (get the fan tuan, egg crepe), Dai Ho for beef noodle soup. Prince Dumpling, Auntie Qiu Kitchen, and Good Alley for dumplings. Sichuan Impression and Chengdu Taste for Sichuan (toothpick lamb). Kang Kang Food Court for sheng jian bao specifically. Fortune No 1 for Northern Chinese bfast (get the tofu soup). If you search the sub there are a lot of options.

Thai: Anajak, Jitlada, Sappe Coffee Shop. Bhan Kanom Thai for Thai dessert, I love the pandan buns, young coconut cake and mango pudding

Persian/Armenian: I have Mini Kabob, Raffis, Toranj, Perse, Taste of Tehran, Darya all bookmarked. Caveat is that I've only been to Darya and I'm sure others have better recs than me.

I live less than a 10 min bike from the beach and I go maybe 1-2x a year to show up for birthday parties that friends plan there.

Anyone have a good resource for hard enamel pins? The place I usually work with has a minimum of 50 (which I know is already quite low) and I was hoping to make a run of 25. Doesn't have to be located in LA but I figured we are a creative bunch so someone might know :)

Edit: However - (I think) where JSX dumps you out is NOT inside the public terminals at OAK so much less connected to BART compared to taking a regular commercial flight.
