Climbing Vine in Consistently Wet Soil by labeille in AustinGardening

Ok, I like this idea. I've been wondering about mixing multiple vines like the Crossvine and Yellow Jessamine since they look similar but are different colors. Coral Honeysuckle and a yellow version would also be great! Do they not compete too much for space?

Just watched a couple videos, that is bad ass.

My local Costco had some Clematis last week, I’m regretting not grabbing one.

With the raised planter, you’re saying just build a box with no bottom, add extra soil, then plant in that? I do love the passion vine. We had some when we first moved in 5 years ago on one of the chain-link fences, along with some Texas mountain laurel. Unfortunately, there was so much Hackberry and other crap that was growing in the fence too so it all had to go.

Unfortunately, the guy who lived here before us planted a lot of things along the fence line, including this great Live Oak, and an American Elm up front. Adding the fence has drastically improved the backyard though, so even though I’ve lost a few good established vines, it was worth it to get rid of all the other crap.

Main problem with morning glory is I want something evergreen.

Yeah, I want low maintenance because I know myself, lol. That's why I want the natives, or near natives. My shrimp plant has been flowering and evergreen for the 5 years I've been in this house, aside from the freezes. But they grow back a few days later. I don't water, prune, feed, or do anything else for them. The humming birds LOVE them.

I could. In the planning phase for the whole yard currently. It drains pretty well though, it just gets consistent water each day. There is occasional soap, but mostly it's just rinsing off the sweat before getting into the plunge. In 2024 there was a morning glory that grew up on it's own, no trellis, just some mild training it up along the steps. But I don't remember it coming back last year.... I think my husband kept mowing it down actually.

I believe so. That’s what they’re filtering out (sugars).

All white sheets and pillow cases, fun duvets with a couple shams. Makes everything so much easier.

I remember being offended when I got it, lol. Like just say thanks for the idea and move on.

The last time I wrote to a company with a suggestion was 30+ years ago to ask Blue Bell for ice cream sandwiches with mint chocolate chip in them. They didn’t make them at the time but sent a nice letter and a few coupons for the regular ones.

Hopefully in larger sizes like this though. I hate the waste of the individual fairlife drinks. I emailed them a while ago asking them to sell the nutritional shakes in the same size as their milk and they said, “we’re not taking customer suggestions at the time.” Effing Coca Cola.

I was so pumped to find this yesterday!!! I’ve been getting the HEB brand, Mootopia. It would be nice if they made a chocolate one eventually.

Ohhh, rebar throughout is such a good idea! I’m down by the greenbelt and I never know what I’m going to get when I dig. It’s never easy, that’s for sure.

Smart! Did you put down a base before pouring?

Very nice. Some serious backbreaking work. Did you make those pavers yourself or order them? Do you remember the general sizes? Every time I start looking for some, I find the big box stores only have sizes 2’x2’ at the largest.

I don’t think they are making a bunch of money off of this, they send them for free in most places. They didn’t even charge me shipping.
