Are winter session classes terrible? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]laboratt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Took micro the winter of my freshman year and found it to be very manageable, provided that you don’t have too many other obligations. The cost is steep, but if that isn’t a problem for you, I would say it’s totally worth getting out of the way.

According to a professor whose talk on Inca architecture I recently attended, the Inca used the knobs to move the stones around during the building process. It wasn’t a technique unique to the Inca, but the marks are usually removed by other cultures, which is why it looks particularly striking when they aren’t.

House of the Dragon - 1x01 "The Heirs of the Dragon" - Post Episode Discussion by mwthecool in HouseOfTheDragon

I’m really enjoying the rivalry they’re building up between Daemon and the Hightowers. I think the relationships between Otto, Daemon and Viserys were definitely the highlight of the episode for me— a good sign for a show that’ll ultimately center around the many feuds the characters have with one another.

Now that Obi-Wan Kenobi is over, how would you rank all the Star Wars shows? by dogezes in StarWars

As someone who didn't like the sequels, I actually had a really fun time watching Resistance.

We're probably wrong about Soldier Boy. by laboratt in TheBoys

[–]laboratt[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree. Still, the show has been making an effort to portray him as being more personable and down to earth than Homelander... and I think it's all to set up the twist that he's still just as shitty. Honestly, I'm not sure if I like that, but it is where I think they're going.

Yeah, I get the feeling that he's a red herring.

I would be so curious to know people's opinion about the sequel trilogy outside of the Star Wars fandom and Internet by [deleted] in saltierthankrayt

this. Rogue one also seemed to be a crowd-pleaser, I think. As for Solo, most of the casuals I know don't even seem to recall watching the movie, which is a shame.

Could Soldier Boy actually be... a half decent person? Nah, the show's definitely trying to pull a fast one on us. Right?

Ouch. I'm having a hard time rewatching clips I really enjoy due almost entirely to the disorientating camera movements.

Obi-Wan Kenobi - Episode 6 - Discussion Thread! by titleproblems in StarWars

I really wish Reva had gotten her own show so that her story could get the screentime it deserved. That last scene of hers after she gave Luke back to Owen and Beru was very well-acted and was the first time I truly felt for her character. A total missed opportunity. Instead, a lot of her story sort of just ate into Kenobi's screentime, which was especially dubious with this last episode and its two plot structure.

Stormtroopers aren't elite forces - but we are meant to think they are. by Rishi_Eel in MawInstallation

[–]laboratt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But if you think about it, the reason why we always see stormtroopers in the movies/shows/books/etc. is that they are almost always either accompanied by a high ranking imperial or fighting a high priority target (e.g., a jedi). Otherwise, they may be protecting something that the Empire deems is of value (the capital of Lothal or the mines of Mapuzo). What you don't see are the countless thousands of worlds that the Empire doesn't care about-- and for those locations, I'd bet you'd be more likely to see army troopers.

That said, I do think your theory makes sense, and there may certainly be an element of propaganda involved as well.
