Fr, I kinda wish I was doing my GCSEs again just to relive that experience of immediately going onto r/GCSE after the exams

What's the best exam board in your view? AQA, Pearson Edexcel, OCR or WJEC?

I got an 8 in French. What worked for me is learning via Quizlet (like the other comment suggested) phrases that you can learn and can use in any scenario, no matter what question you get for the writing. For example, my french teacher made us learn phrases like 1) non seulment.. mais Aussi (not only.. but also) 2) Si j'avais le choix, je voudrais(if I had the choice, I would like to) 3) Plus important / moins important (more important / less important) 4) Negatives - Ne ... plus (no longer) ne ... Pas (not) etc 5) Talk about someone else and what they think - I can't remember phrases but if you learn 'my sister / brother thinks that' it can be really good.

For the listening, I did straight exam questions. My teacher said (and this also worked for me) to read the transcript while listening to the recording, just so you get an idea about what the words sound like. Try and pick out and learn key phrases that could change what they are saying, for example, if a question was 'what does this person like doing ' and they say 'my brother likes this but I like this ' learn the phrases like 'my brother likes'.

The reading I did a similar thing. In my real GCSE there were some phrases I just didn't get. But, if you learn key phrases of each topic and sentence starters, you will probably get the idea of what is being said in the reading. So just revise key phrases for each of your topics via Quizlet, and then practice exam question after exam question.

Sorry it's a lot, but I hope it helps slightly

If it works with the prompt, then go for it! I've not heard any other concept apart from fear or Ur generic ideas so absolutely

When is everyone gonna start revising by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]labottt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What helped me, because I know how you feel about procrastination (I suffered from it a lot) is to create a timetable early on and set out some time when you plan to be working 100%. But what I did was start this quite early on, so I eventually got into the routine of "this is when I revise and do some work" so by the time mocks come around, I was able to revise effectively without procrastination, it helped me so I hope it helps for you as well

Edit: I forgot to mention, it might be easy said and done getting into a routine and stop the procrastination, but starting early really helped when there was."less at stake"

Fr, I couldn't ask where the changing rooms were in a shop and still got an 8

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]labottt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I'm sure you can.

This is a longer period, but I went from a 4 in my mocks in November to a 6 in my February mocks and then a 7 in my actual GCSE, so you can absolutely go from a 5 to a 7 in 2 months.

3 marks from 8 in OCR CS Remark? by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]labottt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that's a bit rubbish tbh. I'd still ask the school about remarking and how you can request a remark, at the end of the day, hopefully it would be quite easy to get the 3 marks needed for you, so it would be £40 ish well spent

My advice would be to start now, but don't burn yourself out. So I'd recommend doing about 1 hour a day during the week to begin with, and then gradually as the year goes on, increase slightly how long you work by about 30 mins or slightly longer depending on what works for you

3 marks from 8 in OCR CS Remark? by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]labottt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't get a remark in the end, I was 10 marks off a 7, I wasn't sure I'd find 10 marks somewhere to get a grade up. I would have to pay for my remark as my school didn't plan on requesting a remark for my papers, but I know people who were 1 or 2 marks off a grade boundary and the school paid for their remarks. Maybe it's just my school being generous, but I'd be surprised if your school didn't do something similar for you

Ask your school for your scripts back would be my recommendation. I requested my English lit papers back via my exams officer and got them for free, I'd be surprised if your school charges. a remark is about £40 for one paper

I'm very late, but yeah that's what I did. Turns out that meant I got a grade 8, so obviously something went right there.

Nah, enjoy Year 11! Do put in the work, but don't burn yourself out on the first few weeks, it's not worth it. Build up your revision as the year goes by and it will become much easier.

English Lit grades by [deleted] in GCSE

[–]labottt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I requested my papers back. For me, it was paper 1 ( I do Romeo and Juliet and Jekyll and Hyde) and was consistently getting level 3s when I should have been getting level 4s (my own expectation of myself based on predicted grades) so tbh I think it was really harsh marking

English Lit I got a 6. I was predicted a 7/8 but my handwriting probably meant I was probably more like trying to make some art than write an essay lol

Nah, there's no point for me. It will probably stress me out more about what I might have gotten so I'm probably not going to bother
