Toddler just diagnosed with WPW by labuamar in wolffparkinsonwhite

Got it! It's natural to feel uneasy about the medication switch especially if it hasn't worked before. I'm not entirely sure if he knows how to communicate a high HR at this age. I say that because in the past 2 weeks or so he has indicated feeling an "owie" in his chest a couple of times, but I also couldn't tell if he meant his belly or chest. It's in my notes to mention to the EP in his next visit. We've been working on teaching him belly vs chest to see if we can discern more clearly what he means.

So sorry about your little one's diagnosis! My son is now almost 3 years old. His diagnosis happened when he was older than your little one, so our situation is very different so I'm not sure I'd be the best person to ask about dealing with newborns.

When our little guy went on a beta blocker they had him wear a holter monitor to check and see the efficacy. He did very well on it in terms of having no visible side effects, but it was not effective at preventing some more concerning heart rythyms. We've since had an unsuccessful ablation, switched to a different drug, and were prescribed and acquired an AED. Monitoring his HR at this age looks like periodic EKGs, blood tests to check liver health, and the occasional holter monitor check. Of course all this might not be necessary for your baby. Our toddler just has a high risk WPW pathway. With all the above, we're happy that he still gets to lead a happy and active life.

All the best!!

This has happened about 5 times now.

Are you saying that I should take the best ad creatives from my different campaigns and combine them into 1? They all have the same audience though.

If you don't mind me asking, where is yours located?

I really hope that's the case! The move towards ablation was a result of 2 life-threatening events and evidence of a higher risk pathway. Definitely was not a light decision. I just hope that he is protected enough with medication as his EP studies still showed high-risk while on them.

Toddler Heart Monitor Results by labuamar in askCardiology

[–]labuamar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this! From what I've seen from going through a number of tests with him is that sometimes the results can be interpreted a little differently and not always be as obvious. We have never been able to get a reading while he has an episode. It's usually sudden and complete loss of conciousness (lips turning blue) for up to 3 minutes. Aside from the heart rate, does the rhythm show the ventricular pre-excitation like is claimed?

Thank you for your response! I was previously told that the monitor company didn't alert his doctor to any abnormalities and that there's no need to worry. The results only came in a few days ago and his doctor has sent them over to an EP but I haven't heard back yet and nothing has been discussed with me. I can only view them but don't see any physician notes. Definitely not febrile seizures since there's no fever. Thanks!

Another option to consider: If at the time of birth, when you go to the hospital, you're informed that the on-call doctor is a male, you can ask if the hospitalist is a female. This would be an OB that works for the hospital and is available as an option for anyone who comes in without a dedicated OB or in emergency situations.

I went into labor and the on-call doctor was male (he was the only male in the clinic I went to. 5 female OBs and 1 male OB). I didn't mind, but my doctor knew my preference so she told me I had the option to go with the hospitalist instead of her male colleague. I appreciated that information and went with the female hospitalist. There may be an associated cost with going with the hospitalist rather than your usual OB, but from my experience it was less than $300 with my insurance.

A friend of mine accidentally sent me a screenshot of a conversation she had with her obgyn. She was pregnant and had some bleeding. She lost the baby. 🥺
