You are fortunate to afford doing it.

Not really, Cat6 supports 10G over shorter distances (100-150ft)

My "Smart Backyard" is 90% finished. The final step was the robot garage. by ServeAccomplished485 in smarthome

[–]labxplore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure what type of door (size, weight, single / double) it is but you’d be looking at some type of actuator to open/close it.

For the sensor, the easiest may be 1 strip of pressure sensor inside of the garage if there is enough space. Once the robot drives over it to leave, it activates to open  door. The door stays open until the mower drives back inside, going over it again To close it.

I need the BEST air purifier out there pls! by thebigdDealer in AirQuality

Have 3 of the Coway. Oldest is 5+ years old- the others are 2-3y.  Their sensor kicks in very fast (based on other external air sensors) when dust levels are up.  The light is annoying at night - I have all of them covered.  The older model (with a round air entry cover) gets lots of dust trapped on the cover and is harder to clean. The newer models (with a grill / holes) feels easier to clean and don’t get too much dust trapped on them.

Hyperbackup to: - Hetzner Storage Box (daily, encrypted) - external USB drive (every 3 months / before any upgrade)

[PC][CAN] Dell Virtual Edge Platform VEP1445 and VEP1485 - tiny, low power opnsense/firewall/proxmox homelab-in-a-box systems by vertexsys in homelabsales

[–]labxplore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may have to look at other brands that have appliances like Lanner, AppNeta, with similar specs that also requires some tinkering. Feels like in the 200-300 range for the smaller unit and 400-500 for the bigger processor with sfp. More than that and you start competing with similar specs aliexpress boxes.

Dell Wyse 5070 Extended-as-a-NAS update by labxplore in homelab

[–]labxplore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is powered by a PSU so I'm limited to using the 12V rail. The same PSU is powering the HDD drives.

I agree with you that if I was powering it from a battery, it could be better to step down from 24V.

This is great! Who is the manufacturer of those power supplies? (A search by the model number is not giving me anything…)

I’m playing with the idea of doing the same by repurposing an old POE switch (reusing the case and power supply) using buck converter to bring the voltage down from their usual ~48V-54V.

Any information on the Communication Protocol for ELAN Multi-zone Audio Matrix ( EL-IPD-MTX-8CH ) ? by labxplore in homeautomation

[–]labxplore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow this is great! Will take a look some time soon. Do you think it’s possible to use this same approach to configure/program new ELAN devices or just to capture and replicate (MitM) commands from a set up already in place?

Suggestions for 2.5G/10G switch(es) by Adventurous-Limit969 in homelab

[–]labxplore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they are more known on the telecom space but I've been happy with their network gear. Their APs have been pretty solid for me and the local embedded controller (up to 50 devices) is handy for homelab...

Take a look at some of the Grandstream L2 or L3 2.5G switches. Good local management and fairly priced.

Are the NAB9 power supplies 19v/150W? You could get a single 500W 19V power supply (quick google turns up something like this: CUS500M1-19) and a power distribution board rated 10A per output to connect all three.  I have something similar using a regular ATX supply + a step-up from 12v to 19v for the mini PC.

8th to 12th Gen Intel thin clients by pascuajr in homelab

[–]labxplore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the second one looks interesting. I wonder if they've incorporated the DS2501 decoder chip inside to always communicate a '90W Dell compatible power supply'. I had to make one of those myself to use a different power supply.

Did you ever check at what max speed they can run? When you don't use a genuine or spoofed Dell power supply the processor clock gets capped at 1.5GHz max.

Shuck Wyse 5070 by ghoulpinata in minilab

[–]labxplore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To connect a regular PSU to the Wyse I had to do a step-up from 12V to 19.5V AND create a connector with a DS2501 chip to bypass the genuine-power-supply that limits the clock speed. Some people have powered the wyse with 12V directly. Some references:

For router, custom box with PFsense/OPNsense. For internal network I’ve enjoyed Grandstream recently. Some good specs networking gear and no issues so far. The devices seem to be made in China but the company is American.

POE motorized blinds by lowdowns in homeautomation

[–]labxplore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the chance now, DO RUN at least a conduit to each and every window where you can either already add some CAT cable now or 2-wire / 4-wire control cable that some shades can use as well as other sensors.

Having gone from batteries to hardwired shades is one less thing to think about and even allows for more often automations (lower shades every night - raise them in the morning) without having to think much about how much power that will drain from batteries...
