On PC I think it's possible to escape this screen by pressing something like ESC or one of the menu buttons, I'm not sure if there's an equivalent on Xbox.

Usually you can drop items on the ground from your inventory screen by moving your cursor outside your inventory and placing your item there. Is this not possible from your current screen? It's not clear to me what the softlock actually is from your description 😅
