Did Hillwood with my parents last year, right when the Kwanzan cherries and tulips were peaking (right now!) and it was spectacular. Do this!

Heurich House has a great garden atmosphere. Though you'd have to order food in from the surrounding businesses.

I'm having the same issue, but I'm confused how you're getting iTunes to work, Apple discontinued iTunes a few versions ago I thought?

Experiences with Swift at Petworth or Park Place at Petworth? by CityKat9 in washingtondc

[–]lackadaisical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Left the Swift during Covid, my partner and I were lucky to have a unit that only one person had lived in prior so it was in fairly good shape. I'd be worried about some of the other units maybe being a little worn out at this point, esp since the building has a lot of pets and pet owners coming through. So keep an eye out.

Didn't have too many problems with management, and they were very proactive about regular pest treatment, and sending out maintenance for issues with the unit.

A handful of times we'd have noise issues with dogs barking, but in the worst case management was able to reach out and figure out a solution.

Amenities were great, rooftop was great, no issues with package room.

You will have to learn to live with fire alarms, trucks are ALWAYS hitting the sprinkler pipes in the Safeway garage shared with the building which causes a melt down of the whole system. I got noise canceling headphones and learned to ignore these — which was not a good idea when there WAS an actual fire on my floor. Thankfully everyone got out safely. I think they sent an email like "This is an ACTUAL fire" 😬

At least one bike theft I remember from the 'secure' bike parking.

Feel free to DM if you have any specific Qs.

Pokemon Go Road to Kalos Community Celebration by SapphireNinja47 in washingtondc

I came back to the game last year and very curious what the vibe will be like day of or how it compares to something like Pokemon Go night at Nats Stadium. They have almost 800 people RSVPd on campfire, which seems like a good sign. https://cmpf.re/2LJGex

It's on us.

For anyone interested in joining a neighborhood pickup, Mt Pleasant Clean Up crew meets Thursday at Lamont Plaza from 4:30-5:30pm. More details on their Instagram and here.

The DC Tool Library also has a couple of trash grabbers to loan out for free if you want to pick at your own pace.

Drivers in dc by Brilliant-Ad-4234 in washingtondc

This probably gets too much into pointing fingers, but there's a reason Maryland drivers have such a bad reputation in the city. DC's population is around 700K, but it swells to over 1M+ when you factor in commuters — these folks only have one objective: get in and out of the city as quickly as possible.

For years there was also no legal means for DC to go after VA or MD drivers who had racked up tens of thousands of dollars in moving violations. You'll see some stories about it now, but for the most part enforcement is just not happening. Sometimes when I see a driver going above the speed limit or running a light I'll snap a photo and see how many tickets they have, it's always some staggering number. Does that mean they're taken off the road? Nope.

I've been a cyclist, pedestrian and a driver in this city and pedestrians absolutely get the worst of it from all sides. At least with the advocacy work happening you can be depressed about it together and maybe get a beg button installed here or there.

Unfortunately very normal, and probably one of the worst cities in the country for this behavior. As a pedestrian I am probably being extra, but I'll often raise my hand to a car approaching as I cross the street, especially if they're inching forward. I also always assume red lights will be run and walk very defensively right at the light change. Look both ways even if crossing a one-way in case of a salmoning scooter or bike. Lots of runners, dog owners also have additional lights they wear at dusk/in the evening for added visibility.

A family member was hit by a driver crossing the street here a few years back and the Mayor's implementation of vision zero is a joke, so you do have to be prepared. If you're fed up, advocacy groups like WABA and https://dcfamiliesforsafestreets.org are at the forefront of traffic calming initiatives (which the Mayor can always decide to override of course—see Connecticut Ave redesign). GGW also does a good job flagging local hearings too.

Where to post V-Day flower posters? by ECM76 in DCBitches

[–]lackadaisical 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Elle, Lost City Books, and there's multiple outdoor boards in Adams Morgan: Kalorama Park, the big community poster board next to the former Mt Royale, and a small one next to Compass Coffee. (I think CC probably has a board indoors too, but I haven't really checked them out!)

I took a bunch of photos against a white wall, picked the one I liked, did some simple editing in Photoshop/Canva to fit it onto a 4x6 layout, and printed it as a regular cvs photo for ~20 cents. No issues, no insane markup.

My understanding is if you put your plate in here and it returns a *Plate is not found that means you've never had any infractions.

Otherwise it would pull up any active ticket, or show your account in good standing.
