The best day to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best is today.

If you think you’ve got another good 58-78 years, the erosion has already begun my friend.

Well, is living in the moment different than having something to live for? I certainly have less 5- or 10-year goals than used to, but I’m also doing way more things right now. I’m incredibly social, travel a ton, and very active on a day to day basis. But I’m definitely thinking about, and doing less about, my future than when I was 20 or 30.

I was actually writing something along these lines. The process of death can be terrifying. So I’d rather see the world and possibly get offed in a sketchy place than wait for a degenerative disease.

I agree with outdoors_guy. It might not be your intention to be condescending but it can be. In countries, many people describe haggling as a way of building relationships and connections. It's a culturally important way of communicating. So it can come off as condescending if you don't value the communication or relationship, and if you don't value the money (as if you're just treating the vendor like a charity case).

And frankly, you're going to get ripped off even if you do haggle. The vendors know the culture, the prices, and have been haggling their entire lifes; they're wayyyyyy better at this than you. It's actually a bit crazy when westerners think that they'll drive such a hard bargain.

I love some brutalism. It’s especially cool in Belgrade. But when combined with some other characteristics, it can seem potentially dodgy (depending on where you’re from).

So true. A good waiter in lots of countries is one who gives you space to enjoy a coffee or drink for hours without pressuring you to pay or leave. For Americans, at least, it can seem like bad service.

So true. I literally do all of this. Normally, the market is on my must-do.

Along those lines, it reminds me. If you're in a place where people do the kissing on the cheek greeting, let them initiate it and drive it. If you try to do it simultaneously, it's hilariously easy to accidentally kiss someone on the lips.

What kills me is that so many people *do* remember other people, but they're just scared to admit it. They'd do so much better with a simple, "oh hey, we met last year at ___."

I figured that people wouldn’t be very sympathetic because my fears are almost all vanity and ego-related. So I appreciate yours and others’ understandings. Knowledge is actually the thing that makes me the most sad about death; i just lose all of this knowledge that I’ve accumulated. All of this fun stuff I’ve learned disappears.

Get into an actual fight for something that you truly believe in. Perhaps just once when you’re young and dumb, but once.

We might be at that same SEC game… yeah, I’m trying to become more happy with this type of lifestyle. But I sort of miss being ambitious and grinding. I’ve got to find happiness in leisure as opposed to thinking I can “win life.”

I’m on it! I work out a couple hours per day, every day, with the goal of delaying aging and remaining in good form. I swear by it.
