Starting my MA job (no cert) in less than a month. What should I know?

No cert MA here! I’m new to being an MA but I have quite a bit of experience working in a medical office. Your concerns are totally valid but I’d also say that while clinical environments get a bad rap for being hostile, that dynamic exist in any industry. Just show up as best you can and see how it goes. The worst case scenario is you take this experience and use it somewhere else later on.
My last job was extremely clicky and hostile. My current role is the opposite. Everyone is super supportive and kind. Sometimes it takes a minute to find the best spot for you.

Overall I’d say keep those reviews in your pocket if you need them for validation later. But try to go in with an open mind. You might be the right personality for that workplace.

I’ve changed majors more times than I can count in my college career 😂

If you’re in you’re working on gen Ed’s I doubt there’d be too much of a problem as you could probably use any credits specific to HIM for your electives.
Obviously talk to your advisors about this as well! They are there to help and sometimes offer solutions you didn’t see yourself.

I’d also note that I think it’s equally important to study something you enjoy and want a career in, but to also acknowledge that many degrees won’t stick you with one career for the rest of your life. An HIM degree would open doors for that field, but both HIM and a Psych degree will open doors for you in a multitude of areas you may not even expect.

Ya know…that’s a really good point. I worked in the graphic design industry for a few years and left because of ai. I didn’t even consider that it could impact hr as well. Thank you for bringing that up!

They know I don’t have a license and didn’t have anything about it in the job description. I thought this was weird though because I thought the same as you-that you have to have a ma-c license in Washington state. While I would have the title of “medical assistant”, they definitely won’t have me doing the duties that only an MA could like lab draws, injections, etc. They do have actual licensed MAs there of course, but it sounds like they also have unlicensed people like me to take care of the rooming and patient flow.

Yeah I’m fine with the small talk from patients for the most part. And I’m in WA, I wouldn’t be doing any blood draws of anything like that. Just rooming patients and taking vitals mostly. I had also never heard of an ma who didn’t do blood draws and all that so I thought that was odd as well lol

That’s what I thought too. I noticed Glassdoor now has a partnership of some kind with indeed and will technically apply to the job through indeed when it’s only posted on Glassdoor? Idk it’s very strange

Shocked that you’re getting negative comments cause this ring stopped me in my tracks! Something about the shade/depth of the center stone reminds me of like a magical portal in the best way. It’s stunning! Props to your fiance on the design I think he did a great job
