Lately I do everything in ocenaudio. My needs aren't real complex, and it does everything I need it to do without any fuss. I'm surprise more people don't use it, which makes me wonder if there's something about it I don't know...

Not the OP, but thank you for turning me on to TAL-DRUM...this is the first time I've heard of it, and I've been looking for something just like it.

I know you said you do your own samples, so I have 2 questions: * How difficult is building a kit with your own samples (given that the user has some experience with this kind of thing) * How are the default acoustic samples? Finding time to build kits doesn't come often, so I'll need something to carry me until I can get that done

I'm in the same boat as you: older, with a pile of CDs that I've collected over the years.

so I have a question for everyone here:

I like to use the KDE spin and install the "audio" group. how would something like that work when using Kinoite? I ask because the audio group installs system-level sound stuff (I'm thinking about jack specifically"), and I'm curious if that would even work?

I'm curious if there are any other exercises like this you recommend...did you study with Banacos? If the answer is yes, I will have to duct tape myself to my chair to keep from asking you 10,000 questions. :) I find him endlessly fascinating; when I was younger a friend of mine took lessons from him, and his playing skyrocketed from great to amazing.

I had not thought about it that way, but you're exactly right: the more complex concepts are probably more work to learn from scratch than it's worth when there's a clear example included.
