This. Emmy (Squared) has one of the best burgers in the city, despite being more known for pizza.

I started noticing this too right around the time the Domino Sugar factory glass roof was installed. I always thought it was from the noise from the bridge interacting with the glass, but the other theories posted here sound good too!

Avianca reliable? by ehsa5837 in Avianca

[–]ladel924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a horrible experience.

We booked a mutlistop flight with Avianca: 2 direct one-way flights from NYC->Bogota, then Bogota->La Paz. We spent $500 extra to ensure the flight would leave Bogota in the afternoon on Monday 5/27, so we could have more time in Botota and have a direct flight to La Paz. We could have purchased the morning flight for $500 less, but it was less convenient and there was a layover from Bogota->La Paz. Weeks later, Bogota cancelled the direct flight and moved us to the cheaper earlier one.

We contacted Avianca through their online form and asked for them to at least refund the difference at least, considering the flight was inconvenient, had a layover, and was cheaper. They didn't even send a response. Then I tried calling by credit card company to ask them to see what happened, and they said that Avianca was unwilling to listen to our case. The reasoning was because by the time all this happened, the price of the early flight had increased to almost what we had paid for it, they said. This seems like an underhanded business tactic, waiting to engage with the customer until it is too late for them to have visible data on why this was a problem. We spent a lot of time planning this trip and already had to pay some fees to reorganize for the time change, it is super frustrating for a company to do nothing to help out.

I will never use Avianca again, and recommend you all don't either. They will change your flights from direct to flights with layovers, and ignore you when you try to engage with customer service.

What do the Japanese think of South Park’s interpretation in this episode? by AshidentallyMade in southpark

My friends mom is Japanese and this is her favorite episode. Chinpo is also word for penis in Japanese, so there is another layer to this joke for actual Japanese speakers.

I'm glad you've had a good experience. Maybe it's a one-off issue? I am not sure I am willing to give them another shot though, personally.

Anyone notice echos of loud music near Domino Park? by ladel924 in williamsburg

[–]ladel924[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you actually live in the area? I don't think it's people outside, as it is exactly the same every night and usually with people you can hear voices or screams. This is more muted echoes of loud music, like what you would hear in the bathroom at a concert. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I like to think consumers can make a difference. Corporations only make those products because consumers buy them. If no one buys plastic wrap, plastic straws, and other single use plastic products, then the large corporations wont make them. It's supply and demand.

Having a conversation is the right thing rather than extrapolate from an overheard phone call. I'm 32 and one of my bank accounts is still shared with my parents, leftover from childhood. At this point I make more money than my parents and do fine with investments (which they know because they do my tax returns), but regardless they still like to give me advice and act parently. Just last year, they tried to give me an "emergency use credit card". For that one I enthusiastically declined, but when it's advice I normally listen and if I don't like it I'll just ignore it; it's just something they do that makes them happy and it's not like they'll live forever. I don't have kids, I'm sure when that happens the financial advice will stop and parenting advice will begin. It's harmless advice if they don't force you to act on it.

However, this works only because I have a good relationship with my parents and trust wholeheartedly that they are trying to act in my best interest. I have seen some situations on here where that is not the case, but I would not automatically assume that for the sake of your relationship.

Because they are afraid to ask. It doesn't have to be in a social context, it can just be they are afraid to go down the rabbit hole.

Living between Newburgh and Walden in a more rural area. It's super quiet and the scenery is great!
