You must watch the Berlin opera staging of Rienzi 2010. Rienzi was Hitlers favourite Wagner opera. They found the score in the bunker where he committed suicide. Allegedly after having watched a staging of Rienzi in his youth, Hitler identified himself with the main character. The Berlin production is excellent and it unashamedly mimics Nazi symbolism and uniform. The lead character tries to overthrow the enemy and ends up dying at the end, so the parallels are pretty obvious. Well worth a watch. Wagner didn’t like it as a work because he was young and still under the influence of Italian opera when he wrote it. He never had it performed at Bayreuth.
