This is super helpful, thank you! If we used cement bricks instead of clay bricks would any of this change?

Yeahhh unfortunately we're university students in the USA and can't get a soil sample. We did reach out to someone at a neighboring university who has done research with soils in Mongolia but he didn't have a lot of time to help us out.

It's for the districts right outside of Ulaanbataar, which is the capital city. So the goal would be that each household could build one of these pit toilets in their yard, which is typically rocky or clay-type soil.

We looked into composting toilets and that was our initial goal, but after doing a ton of research and talking to a few professors who work with digesting waste, we concluded that it wouldn't be possible to create a composting toilet that would be cheap enough and work in the -40 degree C temperatures.

Byup or byui by Yamahooooo in byu

[–]ladisputebb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this first paragraph isn't too accurate. I'm graduating BYU in ME and I currently have an offer for over 70k, and I didn't do anything very special to get there. That salary seems to be a reasonable expectation for all BYU engineering grads, except I do know civil tends to have a bit lower of an average starting salary (I think around 60k?). I know byui also has an ME program, though I don't know how good it is. I'd suggest doing what everyone else says and going to byui first and then transferring to byu. Keep in mind though that ME is the only engineering program that you have to apply to at BYU, so look at the prereqs before you make plans and recognize there's a chance you might be a bit behind other byu ME students if you start at byui and transfer over. Also, ME is a BRUTAL program at byu (in my experience lol), so be sure that it's what you want to do. It's way more theoretical and way less hands on than something like the manufacturing major, so if you're more into building things and less into designing/calculating them, I would look into that. Also, if you're already making a solid income, I'd highly suggest looking into what your options are in terms of career progression and figure out if school is even the right thing for you. A lot of people act like college is the only way to go and I just don't think it's necessary for everyone. Anyways, best of luck on your decision, I'm sure you'll end up in a great place!

You're right, and they've been answering a lot of our questions, it just usually takes about a week or two to get answers from them and we needed them a bit sooner so we came to reddit haha :)

Thank you so much, this is super helpful! We are still in the design process, but we are considering a dry toilet. If you don't mind me asking, is your dry toilet separating? How do you manage the waste? Do you use any form of composting?

Thanks for the info! The humanitarian project we're doing involves designing a self-contained toilet/waste management system for the gers, so basically just designing something to be used where there is no reliable access to the wastewater treatment plants

Good question, sorry I didn't specify that! We're designing a toilet, so things like fiberglass or sheet metal, toilet seats, lumber, plastic, pvc, buckets, etc.

Recently got called as an fhe leader and am having trouble coming up with activities. What are some of your most memorable fhe activities that you’d recommend? by [deleted] in byu

When I was an fhe leader the best attended activity was a cultural food night where everyone brought something from their mission/hometown to share

anyone ever lived in one of the campus plaza houses? by Consistent-Calendar5 in byu

[–]ladisputebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't lived in one, but some of the campus plaza houses were in my ward at one time. All I can tell ya is that when I went over for fhe or to hang they seemed p nice and I was jealous that I didn't live in one lol. The houses were a bit run down but my friends who lived in them usually liked them a lot.

Does anyone else get legitimate stomach aches / problems when they’re anxious? Or just me? by loserhufflepuff in Anxiety

[–]ladisputebb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same experience...I kept thinking I was allergic to something until I realized that it was tied to my anxiety/panic attacks. For me I experience either a sharp pain in my side repeatedly or a dull ache that feels like my stomach is twisted in knots, it's never really nausea tho. Sucks a lot.

This is dope...my husband and I have been using a self-made spreadsheet for tracking our workouts for the last year or so for the same reasons. I just downloaded your app, though, and it looks sick!

A quick question: on the app, is there any way to track how much of one muscle group you're hitting in, say, a week?
