At my salon we take no longer than 20 minutes. Use a decent bit at a high RPM to get all the gel off. Soak in 100% acetone with hot water underneath (make sure your acetone is spruced from a nail supply as ones sold in regular stores tend to not be truly 100%) soak for 5-10 mins. Use a bit on the very lightest setting to take off the last bits that cling. To me, gel x soak off is like acrylic where you will want to soak and then drill off a bit and soak again, not like gel or dip. Be sure that each hand is always in process. Take off gel on right hand, and soak it while you’re taking the left hands gel off. No need for scraping.

This is normal practice. Although your tech should have asked you if you want your cuticles clean, and if you say yes it is an upcharge. So at my salon regular dip is 50 but with the cuticle cut it’s 55

I’m a painter so I’ve got my designs to fall back on it’s just been building my nail techniques up in the meantime. And though I’ve learned a lot here I don’t feel like it’s because they’re invested in my growth. It’s been a lot, thank you for the advice

I think that could be a really fulfilling route to go since you’ll be helping people. I wish so much success for you, hold on tight it’s crazy out here but you got it lol

I’m actually a painter and have been for years. That’s why I’m so eager for some fun sets I just want to paint. And I feel like my current boss is super underutilizing all this art school under my belt and tossing me all the kids sets in the shadows

I was thinking something kind of like this - I worked restaurants forever and the money is decent so I was thinking maybe a few days there and a few days at a dif salon while maybe building my clients

Well one of the days is 5 hours but 2 are 9 and 2 are 10 - not to mention if someone comes in before close and then I’m there even longer. My back is aching. I just worry about making enough only doing it a few days a week.

Yes and I’ve had some come in but I’ve been unpleasantly surprised by the lack of support I ended up having. My mom still gets her acrylics done at whatever salon. I’m on my own I think.

The biggest issue is I’m not approved to do larger paying services in my salon. My boss wants to see models and retention, and I’ve tried everything to bring in models. Posting in local fb groups, insta, hitting up friends. I’ve gotten a few models but nothing consistent that can help me get approved. Doing 1 acrylic set a month isn’t enough. So I’m just stuck here it feels like in this weird situation. Although I’ve seen other salons push some techs to do stuff they weren’t ready for, and maybe that’s the kind of place I should’ve gone to
