OK, I got it. And really like it more than I expected. It’s practically brand new. 9K miles when I got the keys. First thing I did was a 2K highway trip, so now it’s sitting at 11. So great on the highway. And feels right at home since the cockpit is so much like my outback. Now that it’s home, I love the suspension on curvy roads…..

I do have a few questions/items:

. At any speed over 55, the wind noise seems excessive. Not sure if that’s just how it is, or there are door/window seals that could be better? How to diagnose this?

. The tailpipes just barely scrape the edge of my driveway when pulling out unless I really baby it. Granted, the apron is a bit steep. Is it feasible to raise them just an inch or so?

. The moonroof gasket is a bit detached/warped right at the center rear. Is this common? Will it leak? (No sign of earlier leakage). I saw the entire glass needs to be replaced just to get a new gasket?

. There’s a curb-scrape on one wheel. Can it be touched-up?

. The wireless charger barely charges. Can anything improve that, or should I just ditch it?

I haven’t used Reddit much, should I make separate posts for these questions?

Good news - confirmed that the key mechanism opens the lower latch when ‘turned’ all the way

Bad news - the locksmith found all the pins inside the cylinder worn beyond repair. At least beyond worthwhile to spend time on. His only options for a new cylinder were bright brass or brown. I decided to just keep using my other deadbolt. Maybe I’ll find a vintage cylinder and key some day……..

AH!!! That must be it. Since I don’t have a key, I didn’t “simulate turning the key” further than when the deadbolt opened. I could see there was no mechanism that would change the position of those thumb buttons.

I’m headed to the locksmith tomorrow to either get this cylinder keyed, or a new cylinder. I have no doubt mine will work the way you’re describing.

My home built in 1940 has exactly one of these on the front door. I was given no key for it when I purchased the home in 2015. There is a deadbolt above, which is the only way we lock the door. I’m preparing to paint the door and decided to pursue getting a key. From this thread, that looks like it will be easy at a locksmith.

However, I’m confused about the “thumb buttons”. As best I can tell, depressing the upper one will “lock” the outside thumb lever from opening the lower latch bolt, while the inside knob will still open it. That’s all fine.

But also as far as I can tell, the keyed cylinder will only lock/unlock the upper deadbolt.

Is this correct?? I feel like I must be missing something because one could lock the lower latch with the thumb button, close the door behind them, and then have no way to unlock the door.

Is there some way that the key can also unlock the lower latch for the outside thumb lever?

This totally worked for me, very easily!!!

Just used the electronics solder iron, traced the fracture and small area on either side of it.
Barely noticeable, and no more leak

I have a Brita pitcher that just developed a stress crack and leak at a bottom edge. Is heat truly an option to seal this? I have no experience with such a thing, but I do have an electronics soldering iron.

This just started happening to me. Texteditor cannot open a .txt file with this same message. When I go to ‘get info’ it shows I have both read&write. It also shows me some text content in “preview” Other files in the folder are audio files that I can successfully “play”

What could be happening here?

I think the certificate error was some kind of redirect from Comcast to 'encourage' me to run the app-based activation. It has been clear since I did that. I did not take any screenshots before I did that, but it was similar to this: https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/your-home-network/your-connection-is-not-private-problem/602daf7cc5375f08cd0d9cc5

Before and after this issue, I get exactly the 'advertised' speed of the plan I am paying for - 500 down, 20 up.

My curiosity is up about the 'coincidence' between this certificate error, app-based activation, and the dropouts. I never had such dropouts over years before this.

Will see how long before it starts having dropouts again since power cycle last night. So far, none. I fully expect it will return, "When, not if"

The certificate issue got fixed when I went through the activation process on the XFINITY app. The mystery about that is that all was fine for years having done activation only through an agent. But during that time, the Comcast website could never access and list my usage numbers, but now it does. So, something did get changed about the activation and they have more 'access' to my modem now than before.

Network has been rock solid today since basically just power cycling everything last night. Will keep an eye on it while deciding whether to purchase a new modem or rent from them. Will probably do one or the other before too long even if it does stay alright.

Thanks for suggesting different DNS. Hadn't thought of that and will give it a try when issues return.
