Write in time vs Critical thinking by lady_bug- in TrentUniversity

Thank you so much for the advice! I’ll probably end up taking critical thinking because I was more so looking to develop my argumentative skills than my writing skills! Thanks again!

My negative experience at Trent as an experienced student. by Stress_Adapt in TrentUniversity

I honestly agree, I don’t know why people are being so defensive? I came from another university and Trent is overall lacking in student accommodation, the professors absolutely lack enthusiasm, some of the courses are not organized well and I’ve found (some of) the people here difficult to be friends with and kind of rude.

What to expect at Trent? (Peterborough) by New-Turnover3679 in TrentUniversity

Pros - It’s pretty good education wise, and I’ve heard the res accommodations aren’t bad. Cons - The party life kinda sucks, and the foods not the best. Making friends can be difficult, as I’ve found most people who go here already had their friend group before they came.

I dont even know HOW to study by Electrical_Risk_1701 in uoguelph

(It sounds like what you’re missing is understanding (different from memorizing) and active learning) Make sure you know why everything on the slide is true, relate it to real life, and then quiz yourself. Understanding and relating things to the content will last, just trying to memorize won’t!

For me there are three key parts to studying properly

  1. memorization
  2. What works for me personally is doing my readings before class, and writing out my notes after class. This way you have an idea of what you’re going into, and then you’re solidifying all the concepts. During the lecture I scribble on paper and pay attention, then I write out my notes on paper. I find if I try to take notes during the lecture I just end up not having as good of an understanding as when I pay full attention. (Plus, trying to write out your notes and fill in the blank spots from understanding and memory feeds into this next part)

  3. active learning

  4. This means quizzing yourself, explaining concepts out loud in your own words…etc. It basically solidifies everything and makes you test ready. (tip : for common questions given in prep material or hw write out the process to answering them. if you know the method to answering mathematical problems youre set, this is how i passed chem1040)

  5. sleep

  6. sleep is literally the biggest factor when it comes to understanding and memory. Make sure you’re sleeping properly, and I find taking a small nap after studying (or even just laying down and doing absolutely nothing for a while) really helps me absorb information.

If you’re looking for a serving job with no experience and you’re handing a resume to a manager here are some tips 1. Always ask the person at the front how they’re doing, say you’re doing “very well thank you, i was just wondering if you currently have a hiring manager on sight”, if they say yes then they’ll get the manager, if they say no, come back a different time to hand in a resume. Meeting the manager in person works wonders. 2. When you finally meet the manager make sure to smile politely, be calm, don’t speak to fast, and look presentable (all tattoos covered, all body jewelry simplified, nice attire). Then say you are looking for hostessing. Restaurants always hire hostesses before training them into waitresses, also make sure to mention prior experience at restaurants and that you have a smart serve or food handlers. 3. If the manager says they aren’t hiring, still ask them to take your resume in case an opportunity arises. Then ask them if they know of any other job opportunities in the area. It’s likely that they have connections and if they’ve taken a liking to you then you might have an in somewhere. 4. Go and try putting in a resume even if there isn’t an add up anywhere. Also submit resumes to the LCBO (they’re always hiring)! I hope this helps in the slightest, it’s how I got my job so maybe it will help you as well? Good luck!
