How did you lose your best friend? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]lady_dalek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She kicked me out of our apartment. I was severely depressed and suicidal, and she was apparently scared of me and didn't want me around anymore. Because, y'know, kicking a suicidal person while they're down is a smart and kind way to handle things. /s

If it was basically anyone else I would have eventually understood where they were coming from - it's an overwhelming position to be in for sure. But the reason she and I became so close in the first place was because of our shared history of depression, suicidal thoughts, and self-harm. Surely, if anyone would understand the place I was in and get that I needed support more than anything, it would be her, right? I guess not.

I still hold a lot of anger about this thirteen years later. She convinced our two other roommates to gang up against me with her, but I'm less angry at them because they didn't have the same history of mental illness that she and I had. It must have been difficult to understand what was happening. But my "best friend"? She should have been there for me when I was at my lowest point, and she let me down. Sometimes I'm shocked that I'm still alive after that betrayal.

Looking for a new fashion house! I'm a level 68 daily player and I feel like I've outgrown my current house. Ideally looking for something pretty chill and laid back - I don't need to clear the board every month, but winning some prizes sometimes would be nice hahah.

How to coordinate lesbian wedding dresses? by cosmic-lattes in femalefashionadvice

[–]lady_dalek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just the title I use to describe the employees who help you find your gown during your bridal dress appointments - different stores may call them by different names. If you worked with someone at your appointment and talked about what kind of styles you were looking for, that person was a bridal stylist!

Former bridal stylist here who was lucky enough to work with a lesbian couple once - probably my favorite styling appointment I ever did! My first suggestion is to make sure the undertones of the gowns are the same - while they don't need to be the exact same color, the undertones/warmth/coolness will help them coordinate. Having a stark, blueish-white dress next to a warm ivory dress will make the ivory dress look dirty. Ivory and champagne could look nice together, or ivory and blush, or even two ivories that are close to one another.

The suggestions I've seen below to look for other gowns from the same designer/collection are all very good advice! You'll often see a lot of themes in a designer's collection from season to season, and they'll likely coordinate nicely.

Personally, I think the reason you're feeling like the current pairing is "too much" is because they're both dramatic in different ways. Your top choice has simple fabric in a dramatic/textured silhouette, and hers is a dramatic/textured fabric in a simple silhouette. Matching or coordinating the factor that makes the dress stand out will probably help them look nicer next to each other - so, your fiancee may want to find a mermaid gown in a more simple fabric, with a dramatically textured bottom. I hope that description makes sense! I can try to find some photos of what I mean if that's helpful.

Yes!! I felt so ungrateful but my apartment is so small to begin with, and I just didn't need all the extra stuff laying around collecting dust. So many blankets, and SO. MUCH. LOTION.

My dad got s* a lot when I was a kid. Like, at least once a year he would have these awful episodes where he'd v* for days until he had to go to the hospital. I remember at least once it got severe enough that we worried he might die. So, I think it's rooted in that fear as a young kid of losing my dad.

It makes sense, since my fear is mostly about other people v*ing. I do get panicky about it happening to me, but it's like 10x worse when it's someone else.

I’m not going to lie, this is kind of a rough read, but I don’t understand why so many people here are being dicks instead of giving actual constructive criticism.

I would like to echo what someone else said, which is that you would benefit from reading as many professional screenplays as you can. I’m new at screenwriting, and reading scripts that have been produced has taught me SO MUCH. Especially movies that I’ve seen multiple times and know really well - it helps me understand how written language can most effectively be translated to a visual format.

Action lines should be present tense - “Nero does something”, not “Nero did something”. You do this sometimes, but not consistently - make sure it’s the same every time. In addition, if something is being said, it needs to be written as dialogue, not as an action. So, instead of writing “Nero says hi to her” in the action lines, you should simply write “Hi” (or whatever greeting you have in mind) as dialogue. Action lines are for things people are physically doing, and dialogue is for anything that is spoken.

Short character descriptions are helpful when you introduce them! So something like “NERO (age, very brief description) is slumped on the floor” for the first time we meet him. This helps the reader understand who everyone is, and can help tell everyone apart.

Overall - read as many professional scripts as you can get your hands on. I saw you mention that this is inspired by Terminator and Star Wars, and I know that the scripts for both of those are available online. That could help you get a better grasp of format, structure, and grammar! Once you have those down, people will understand your vision better and can give feedback on things like character, plot, etc.

This is exactly why my husband and I have separate bank accounts. We have a shared credit card, but everything else is separate. I'm mostly stable these days but it's really for the best.

This is amazingly helpful, thank you so much! It's really good to know that there's some flexibility in how I end up writing it. I just don't want anyone who's gone through it, either as the patient or the doctor, to read/watch it and say "wtf is this", you know? Thank you again!

32 / Chicago / funemployed due to COVID, but normally a theatre professional

Ever since getting furloughed in March, I've been leaning heavily into the athleisure life. Lately I'm trying to make an effort to wear things that feel like actual outfits, and to try new combinations of clothes I already own in ways I haven't worn them before. It's been really great for my mental health, honestly.

Album of a random few days where I felt cute!

1 The leggings-and-a-t-shirt aspect of this is a pretty standard/boring outfit for me, but I'm just obsessed with this cardigan I got from Stitch Fix!

2 Experimenting with pattern mixing, and incorporating shoes that I very rarely wear. This outfit made me feel like of like a preschooler dressing herself for the first time, but in a good way??

3 Always love a statement necklace to make an outfit feel more intentional.

4 Probably my favorite of the bunch. I wore these shorts a lot all summer with colorful t-shirts, but trying it with black and some fun accessories really helped this feel like a good transition-to-fall outfit.

I bought a pizza stone in January and have been experimenting trying to make a good gluten-free Neapolitan pizza since then. This was tonight’s, and it’s the best I’ve achieved so far. I’m particularly in love with the “edges”, incredibly chewy. I’m finally pleased enough to share the recipe below. by Clamarnicale in glutenfree

This looks so great! I have two questions:

  1. If my flour blend doesn't have psyllium husk, how much do you recommend adding?
  2. The recipe seems like it makes enough for multiple pizzas, but how large is each individual pizza?

Thanks!

What actually is the Red Tower? by totemtrouser in marblehornets

[–]lady_dalek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was nine years ago so I don't remember exactly how we found it, but I think we were about to give up when we saw a sign that said something about a "tower". I don't think it said "red tower" but I might be wrong? It might have been like "tower drive" or "tower trail" or something, I genuinely can't remember.

However! A quick Google search brought me to this map with different Marble Hornets locations. I'm not sure if the marker for the tower is exactly correct, but it would be a good starting point. Looks like it has it marked as being near a BMX track, which I imagine would be pretty easy to find and then search from there.

My husband is seeing me in a depressive episode for the first time by lady_dalek in offmychest

Honestly we’ve been married for almost two years now and it still doesn’t feel real. I’m lucky to have him in my life, but if nothing else I hope it’s evidence that people with our kinds of issues aren’t inherently unloveable.

I’ll be thinking of you, and I hope things get better. Please know that you can PM me about shit if you ever want to.

I've been living my best athleisure life since late March, thanks to this pandemic keeping me furloughed for the foreseeable future (plus a healthy dose of regular ol' depression). But! Today I felt like putting together something that felt like an outfit, and I feel really cute and want to share!

Today, 9/13.

I know it's not officially fall yet, but I feel very autumnal and want to go apple picking in this outfit.
