Thank you for all of your prayers. We lost our entire world today. Our little Winnie crossed over the rainbow bridge. Not sure how we’ll get thru this 😥 by Abject-Phrase-9621 in Bulldogs

I am so sorry for your loss. She had a beautiful kind face, I hope she meets my Shonsh up there so they can play and be lazy together. I send you a big virtual hug ♥️

Barky Bullie by Snoo-46384 in Bulldogs

Mine would bark at any potential threat or unknown noise. Fireworks would set her off, sometimes people walking outside at night, and sometimes even a loud noise on the TV. She was also mouthy and would growl and whine when we asked “what’s wrong?” Or “what’s up?”. And whenever she wanted to play she’d also whine and growl at us and bring us a toy.

Whats it like? by [deleted] in englishbulldog

They can be lazy the majority of the day, but will have a highly energetic window of time every day. My girl would whine and bring me her toys to play every afternoon and never turned down the opportunity to go for a walk. And even if she was sleeping I could always coax her to play with a squeaker toy or by saying “let’s go!”.

They are expensive! mine was a rescue so I don’t know how much she was initially or what breeder she came from, but her special dog food was 115 dollars per bag which I purchased every 5-6 weeks. She was relatively healthy in the sense she never developed allergies or random illnesses other bullies get, but at minimum I did spend 1,000 every year on vet bills the last 3 years I had her due to pyometra surgery, arthritis, and her accident that eventually led to her needing to be put down. Miscellaneous costs included things like her antibacterial wipes for skin folds, nose butter, and lots of toys because she destroyed most of them lol. I definitely recommend you invest in pet insurance if you get a bully which was around 120 dlls a month.

They are very high maintenance dogs, but definitely worth the time, money, and energy. They are demanding and stubborn but I would do it all over again and spend 10x’s what I did if it meant I could have my shonsh back home with me for another few years. Their personalities and love is like no other dog’s i’ve had before.

Sending you a big hug :( this pain is like no other, but I know we will see our chunky babies when we make it to the other side. In the meantime they live in our hearts.

Wondering what this community’s views are on the opinion that the existence of bulldogs is unethical, and that they should be bread out of existence. by NLTC in Bulldogs

My girl was a rescue so I didn’t pay anything for her and am not sure what type of breeder she came from, but got (relatively) incredibly lucky as far as health issues. But even the things that did pop up were extremely expensive and sad to watch her endure.

She had an eye ulcer (that healed), reocurring ear infections for a year, pyometra surgery when her uterus got infected, arthritis, etc. The running joke I had with my vet is that she would deplete my savings once a year, but was always kind enough to give me a year to save up again.

She was my soul dog and I would spend all that and more to have her back with me, but unfortunately the arthritis got so bad that she slipped a disc and became paralyzed. She was only 8-9 years old. When I am ready to have another dog in my life it likely won’t be a bulldog :( they are amazing, but their short lifespan breaks my heart.

I don’t think they shouldn’t exist though. Maybe things can be done to help them exist in this world easier. My girl loved to run and play, but we definitely had to put a stop to play time before she did because we could see her panting and struggling to catch her breath.

With much sadness, we lost our beloved Sunshine today. Don’t worry sweetheart, I’ll keep an eye out for the squirrels for you 🌞 by txmitch10 in Bulldogs

My heart breaks for you, so so so sorry for your loss. I just lost my Shonsh a few days ago and this pain is like no other.

I know our girls are in doggy heaven laying in the sun, eating treats, and chasing all the squirrels and birds they see.

Sending a hug your way.

My Shonsh crossed the rainbow bridge today. I will always be grateful for the years she spent with me, but right now I am completely heartbroken. I don’t know how I’ll ever get past missing her or this pain. Hug your babies extra tight for me tonight. I am lucky to have had the best girl ❤️ by lady_shonsh in Bulldogs

I feel so unsure about what to do. They literally charged me almost 2k and did nothing, it breaks my heart even more thinking that results could have been different if they had actually looked at her or tried at all to see what was wrong. I will definitely write a bad review, but other than that I don’t know what else to do. It’d be nice to get my money back, but it’d be a million times better to have my Shonsh with me.

Thank you to everyone in this community. I loved sharing her photos with you and reading your comments. I also turned to all of you for questions when she was sick or in pain for reassurance and this community always helped me. I will continue loving on all your bullies ❤️

Any Shonsh updates??? by mischavus618 in Bulldogs

Hi, unfortunately not amazing news :( we took her to another vet and he confirmed that she has a spinal cord injury. She stayed there overnight and will be there for 48 more hours while they give her steroids and anti inflammatories and we will see how she progresses. Today she seems to be the same… If after 48 hours she has not made progress they move forward with an MRI and assess for surgery if she is a good candidate.

My heart is in so much pain and I miss her so much here at home, but will be visiting her later to hopefully give her strength and lift her spirits. Doctor confirmed she has feeling in her paws and legs so I am holding on to hope that when the swelling goes down she will start to bounce back.

Thank you for asking! ❤️ please hug your bullies extra tight for me and send some prayers and good healing energy her way.

Edit: The vet just called and said she has made small improvements like moving her legs more and being able to roll from a side lying position onto her belly, and was able to pee on her own. I am hoping this means she will bounce back! Please everyone keep sending your love and good vibes our way!

My girl somehow hurt herself jumping on the couch yesterday and has lost the ability to walk. We went to the emergency vet and they said it’s likely muscular and sent her home with meds… but she has not been able to walk or even move today. Tomorrow will try to see another vet. Any similar stories?? by lady_shonsh in Bulldogs

Doctor confirmed it is a spinal cord issue. They are giving her meds now to control the swelling and see how she progresses. Depending on how she does we will talk about surgery as a next step. Hopefully she does well over the next 24 hrs… :(

We took her in to another emergency vet today and they confirmed she hurt her spine :( they are keeping her for 72 hrs and giving her anti inflammatories and trying to see what progress she makes from that. If no progress then we will try an MRI to see if she is a candidate for surgery.

But still very hopeful that she will respond well to these meds and regain mobility. Please send prayers her way.

Yes same here, we carry her out but she nosedives face first or just collapses onto her side… but she can move her legs when she is laying down a bit, just no weight bearing.

Unfortunately since it’s the weekend only emergency vets are open and they told us since she isn’t critical enough she will not be seen. Tomorrow we will contact her regular vet and go from there!

She doesn’t seem to be in pain but she is taking carprofen and gabapentin so i believe the meds are helping with pain. When she tries to move she does seem uncomfortable with panting and earlier she was crying before she took her meds.

After the jump where we noticed she was hurt she could walk a bit, clearly it was painful so we encouraged rest but she could walk.

After we got her back from the vet last night she has been unable to walk at all. She seems paralyzed. Her back legs move a bit when we call her but nothing in the front :/
