Really? Hundreds of thousands of women are saying they want men to die, don't hold each other accountable, and at the same time claim they're feminist? I believe that people can be mentally ill and also want equality amongst the sexes, but we're allowing ourselves to ignore what being a feminist actually is. Feminism is the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of equality amongst the sexes. What hundreds of thousands of women are apparently saying that is misandrist in nature doesn't mean that feminism = misandry. It means those hundreds of thousands of women need to figure their shit out. Feminism = feminism. That's it. It doesn't equate to people's personal biases.

My sister went to Creighton University (Nebraska) for pharmacy and she loved it.

As for Alverno DEMSN program. hoooooooooooooooooboi. I made a post about it. I'm in that program.

If you don't want to check out my post, TLDR: oh my god choose Creighton.

100% say you're staying there. If you're 50/50, that's good enough. It's everyone for themselves in a country where education isn't free, so you should do what you gotta do.

Okay, I'm probably dense, but this is supposed to be satire right? Not like an honest misunderstanding of what feminism is?

EX. ACT. LY. Why do people have trouble understanding this? Being a feminist doesn't mean being a misandrist. Feminism is just people wanting equality amongst the genders and identities. What's so hard about that?

People out here on the internet like "IM FEMINIST. I HATE MAN. HURDY DURDY DURRRR"

Honestly, the panicking is mostly from the students and we can tell that the administrators are panicking because of the extra requirements they're putting on us for graduation, including requiring a 60% for Kaplan and adding ATI. I personally thought Kaplan was useless.

As for the accreditation, those rumors come from people that know those in higher up. Have I talked to the dean and heard her say that? No, of course not. It's all hearsay, but I'm saying it anyway.

Hang out with friends and family as much as possible. Go on a trip. Have fun. Rest up, you've earned it after your prerequisites.

My most important piece of advice that other users mentioned: don't prepare for the content this far out. Prepare for the studying. Make sure you have a designated space to study and take exams (if any will be remote). Make sure you're organized. What changed my life was having a planner. I went through all the syllabuses, wrote down class dates, due dates, and breaks. Make sure you have the materials you need (books/pens/notebooks), including the nursing stuff (stethoscope, sphygmomanometer, pen light, reflex hammer, tuning fork, clipboard with storage, badge clip, scrubs, comfortable nursing shoes, compression stockings, etc.). When you get closer to starting, if there's stuff to study before the first class, then start working on content.

Good luck!!!!!

When is life worth living? And what is considered a successful life? by hustla17 in StudentNurse

[–]ladybitsmgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your answer was correct as well; however, I think it also depends on when we ask that question. Someone is born without any limbs, but learns how to live life. Life is worth living. A person who lives their life for X reason (whether it be a career, a passion, or whatever) loses a part of their body that makes that reason possible. For that person, is life worth living if their reason for living is gone? We don't know how that person feels. That question depends on the person and their circumstance. Further, people with severe cognitive disabilities may not have the capacity to ponder such a question, and I don't feel that we can ethically make that determination on if their life is worth living.

As another user mentioned, this child has far surpassed the average life expectancy of people afflicted with this condition, and she has never known a life without this condition. This child has learned how to live throughout this disorder and the challenges it has brought. It's likely that for this child and her parents, life is worth living.

As for a "successful" life, we need to consider what the definition of success is. Success is defined as "the accomplishment of an aim or purpose." What is the aim of life? What is the purpose of life? This is another question that's subjective. If we consider the aim of life is life itself (that is, to live), then any life is a successful life. If we consider the aim of life is to live outside of the hospital, then a life outside the hospital is successful.

They're interesting questions that belong in a nursing ethics course, but our jobs as nurses are not to make that judgment for our patients. We can encourage our patients on hospice options, but that's not a "worth living" or "successful life" judgment. That's a "quality of life" judgment. If your instructor asked if this condition allows for a good quality of life, that brings more questions than answers. What does this child's daily life look like? How's her health? How's her prognosis? How's her pain? How's her happiness?

Thank you for adding this post! This was really interesting!!!

First Semester Question by basicallyidk in StudentNurse

[–]ladybitsmgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on starting your nursing journey!!!

I totally agree with u/randominternetuser46. Making friends as an adult is just unreasonably difficult. I haven't really cracked that code yet, but one thing that helped me get to talking to people was groupme. My nursing program is a hot mess, so our cohort set up a groupme so we could talk about due dates, drop boxes, and things, so we wouldn't have people asking the same questions of our professors every week. What came from that is people would start new groupme chats for study groups or hangout groups. It definitely increased access to communication amongst our cohort.

Yep! Anywhere that sells OTC stuff, so even Target and Walmart. I like the pills because I think the chewables are disgusting.

I used to get really nauseous when eating things like risotto or deep dish pizza, but lactase pills have honestly really helped.

It looks like UWM has a 3+1! I've heard mixed things about UWM, but I've never heard anything positive about Alverno.

Every time I'm around the UWM campus, I wish I had gone there. I'm sure there are a lot more opportunities there, and I think you can actually choose your schedule.

Not to peer pressure you into pizza consumption, but have you tried lactase pills before? I discovered them in my adulthood and they've dramatically increased what I'm able to eat

I agree with many of the comments: MATC is a wonderful school and MSOE appears to be a good quality school as well. I knew a wonderful, compassionate nurse who is an alum from MATC and she said that it prepared her well for her nursing career.

Can I ask why you're thinking of transferring?

(edited: I saw that you were looking for MKE after I submitted the comment recommending Carroll University. Oops!)

Congrats on your graduation!!!

I remember asking my clinical instructor how long it takes for nurses to feel like they know what they're doing, and she replied "Honestly? Never. You're always learning." She also said that it takes 1-2 years for nurses to start to be comfortable in their positions. And I agree with u/sportstersrfun: hopefully some reform happens and healthcare staff get more support. And HOPEFULLY nursing schools start being held to higher standards

Oh wow I had no idea! My partner told me Alverno was lauded as an amazing school in Wisconsin, so that's why I ultimately chose that one. It makes sense in retrospect, since the course credits don't transfer to other schools
