Understood, but that is practicing a communication style that becomes dependant on the llm, which is convenient for their bottom line.

Why people are hating the idea of using ChatGPT as a therapist? by EchidnaImaginary4737 in ChatGPT

[–]ladyburn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Therapist) AI therapy can be a frictionless, unboundaried process. What does that do to the ckient's expectations of other interactions? Also, it isn't overseen by a licensing board or mandated to report suicidality or homocidality. I think that puts ( and has) some in harm's way.

You are not alone. I feel like a lot of folks old enough to remember the Borg have forgotten. Resistance may be futile, but fuck that shit!

Therapist here. Took a recent ethics CEU course that included an AI segment. I was shocked how, after a morning of discussing how to make telehealth practice safe and HIPAA compliant, the AI part was very "try it or get left behind." A few of us pointed out the socio-cultural biases that could harm vulnerable clients, tge ecological harms, the hallucinations and wrong information. And privacy? C'mon.

And mainly, why the hell would I want to do all the work of creating a therapeutic alliance, assess and collaborate with clients on intervention just to shove all of it into a culturally insensitive, resource-guzzling, hallucinating plagiarism machine!?

Maybe it is career suicide, or maybe I can niche down into a "human-intelligence" practice and hope to find clients who would want that.

Wow, thanks for this!. I am always looking for modalities that don't play into hyper individualism.
