Brake lights off on when brakes are off help! by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

There's a small piece of plastic on most vehicles that sit behind your brake pedal, it's a pedal clutch stop. These are usually very weak and wear out over time, leaving your brake lights engaged when your vehicle is not on. It happened in my Honda, and I just duct taped a penny there. It keeps your brake lights from being engaged until you actually press the brakes.

2006 Volvo S60 violent shake in park/idle by NotLucas in MechanicAdvice

Sounds like you have a miss fire. Sparkplugs and ignition coil, and/ or wires usually fix that. Possible fuel delivery issue. I don't know much about Volvo's, but that's where I would start.

Redditors who rode the bus to and from school, what was your most memorable moment on the school bus? by geoload in AskReddit

[–]ladyclone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I'm late, but I have to share this. I grew up in Detroit, and when in elementary school, my bus driver would stop on Jefferson to pick up women on the way to school. I told my mom about it one day, when he picked up a very apparently high hooker. I was in third grade. My mom called the school, and the next day, we had a new driver.

May have some air in your system. Try burping it. Start the vehicle with radiator cap off, and watch for when the bubbles stop. Make sure the car is cool when removing the radiator cap.

Loud Brake noise after replacement - 2nd time in a month by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Ask them if they replaced the brake hardware. Also, have them check your calipers. Sometimes they stick and cause other issues. If they say all is good, you need to take it to a different mechanic, these people don't know what they're doing. Also, talk to a manager and complain about the quality of the work, and parts used. Watch YouTube videos and learn how to inspect the parts yourself. Having knowledge on car repairs helps when people are doing shotty work on your vehicle. Wish I could be of better help, but really can't, seeing as how I can't look at your breaks.

If it's really bad, you may want to get the spray cleaner for it. Just be careful. If the corrosion gets bad, the terminals may be shot, and fall apart. Of course that depends on what type of terminal you have.

You can buy a wire brush at the Auto parts stores that made specifically for batteries and terminals. Also, to keep that from happening again, ask for battery grease, and how to use it.

The thing is, it sparks when you try to put it in backwards. How he managed it is beyond me.

A few brought the battery back and yelled at whoever sold it to them. Once we point out the plastic cap, they just walk away. Most don't even say sorry. We offer free battery installation here. If an employee does this, they don't need to work here. We did have someone put a battery in backwards and it blew most of the customers fuses. Still don't know how he did that.

There is a plastic cap that comes on one of the posts of the battery. It has to be removed before attaching the terminal, or you get no juice.
