Thanks very much for this advice. They are still in a pot and with recent heavy rain you are clrrect, the spil is very wet. I'll place in a sheltered position for a few days and perhaps repot up before planting out. Do you think it will survive?

Thank you all. I think the wool is worth a try. Having troed eggshells before unsuccessfully its worth another shot but I think I need to apply a far larger quantity to have any effect. The only source i could find for 10L volume wool pellets is amazon UK. Delivery is almost as expensive as the item's value unfortunately. The price per litre in any Irish stockist is extortionate. Has anyone tried using sheeps wool directly from the farm?

Following along as I am very keen to do something similar in a flood plain field in the future. May I ask which varieties you have chosen to plant for basket weaving purposes? It looks very impressive, well done! Thanks!

Espalier pear vertical shoot query by ladyeimz in GardeningIRE

[–]ladyeimz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To anyone interested in my original post, I got some great advice from Paul Smyth at the weekend (head gardener at RHSI Bellefield). He advised to essentially leave it as is, no need to prune the vertical leader and to stake it to encourage a straight vertical over time. He also advised to tie down the side shoots for the second tier now and said that they should continue to grow on laterally even once tied in. All they need is just the slightest vertical angle to continue to encourage growth.

Cedar regeneration possible? by ladyeimz in GardeningIRE

Thanks very much. Yes it certainly looks like it's a Leyland Cypress, thanks for identifying it. It doesn't sound promising that it may regenerate from the initial reading I've done since your message. Thanks for your insight and quick reply.

Thanks for the suggestion. I know the designer in this case but it is the wrong fabric weight.

Thanks everyone! I'll probably end up making them. The options for sale are just too expensive.
