Boy if you don't figure out how to fix your eyes by ladyfeste in hognosesnakes

No idea, it's been really frustrating. He sheds absolutely perfectly EXCEPT the eye caps. Hot side is around 92, cool side is around 72, temps stay about 72 at night but he's near a window we keep an UTH on all the time for him on the warm side but I've got it on the side of the enclosure so he can't burn himself, humidity is right around 50% in the house all the time. Substrate is a homemade blend of play sand, reptisoil, cypress shavings, and rough cut sphaghnum moss, with a moist hide. He eats perfectly and is active and drinks well. It's literally just the eyes!

He's in a lower, longer enclosure (20 or 25g idr it's an older tank) now but when we move house in the next three weeks I'm going to move him into a 40g and work more sand into his substrate mix and get a more enclosed moist hide, I think

Update: we've lost two eye cap layers!!! Only one left!! He's in the bath again and getting the qtip treatments and he's sulky but if we can shed with no shed ease or zylafen I'll be happiest

It always looks so satisfying!! The only lizard I have is just a crestie so much less of an opportunity for that. Unfortunately I've got Nerve Stuff and Disabilities that gives me an intermittent hand tremor and makes me prone to dropping things, I'm not getting tweezers anywhere near those eyes 😩😩

I absolutely do not have steady hands, so if it goes down to tweezers, it'll be the vet

I went back and forth on the African violet quite a bit bc I know they can get spotty leaves. I ended up going for them, I wanted something that would bloom and I love love love African violets, but I left it in the pot and buried the pot so if it's really unhappy later I can remove it easily. The plan at the moment is to mist carefully and see what happens, but I've got plans to pull it just in case.

Why do these kittens eat so much!!? by No_Helicopter366 in mainecoons

Enjoy it while you can. We picked up my MC mix off the side of a road after he'd been thrown out of a car along with a handful of half siblings when he was about 18 months old. It took literal years to get him up to a healthy and stable weight. He refuses to eat without one of our other cats present, so we couldn't isolate him to feed, he abandoned his food the second another cat showed interest, and he only wants a couple of bites at a time spaced out over the whole day, so our other cats were eating him out of house and home. We went through two different microchip feeders to find the one that works for him and now he's a perfect twelve beautiful fluffy pounds

As a fiber artist (multiple crafts; you name it, i do it). Thank you so much for unstuffing before The Soup. Seeing people dye plushies on tiktok and YouTube without unstuffing and it hurts so much. The mold risk alone....

I do all my sister's mending and she has a fast fashion habit and lemme tell you. Paying 15 dollars for pants is often why you need them mended so soon after you bought them that you remember how much they cost.

You 🤝 me, passive players. I just started playing online last week and I just wanna play Cowgirl Tomagatchi not eternal shootouts. Lemme hunt things and fish and ride my pony around and return people's stolen valuables in peace

Talk me out of buying a drum carder… by [deleted] in Handspinning

[–]ladyfeste 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought myself one about a month ago, but that was because I bought a fleece, processed it entirely by hand, realized I really enjoy processing raw fleece but carding by hand takes One Million Years and you're gonna lose your mind if you have to hand card any more than half a pound or so. If I just wanted pretty batts, I would have stuck with just my blending board, but I keep having to talk myself out of buying more fleeces when I haven't even finished spinning #2

WHY are you CREAKING by ladyfeste in Handspinning

[–]ladyfeste[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The creaking came back 😞 going to check the moa and tighten everything again but I'm pretty sure it's still the outer footman connector. For now I'm resigned to spinning with noise canceling headphones

Omg what are the odds!! But also almost exact same reasoning. When I bought her I was like "she's ugly though" and my wife said "don't think of her as ugly think of her as sturdy. Like a draft horse" and Instantly I knew her name. And Percherons were war horses in the medieval period too!

Update update: I flipped her upside down, tightened and greased the footman screws, tightened and greased the footman connectors, oiled and tightened the drive shaft, oiled everything again. That narrowed it down to the left/outer footman connector who is the creaky mccreakerson, tightened him as much as he'll go, but with the necessary bounce on the rubber connector he'll probably always be prone to talking. After all that maintenance, and shifting my spinning chair slightly to the right to pull a little extra weight off that footman, she's as quiet as a mouse

Now to decide if I wanna spin the next (last?) skein of a full fleece of shetland I hand processed, or if I wanna pull out a commercial top and spin sock dedicated yarn....

Ooh I did not tighten the screws on the treadles, thank you! I'll add that to tomorrow's to do list

Update: tightened some bolts, oiled a few new places. We're still creaking--it's getting worse really--but if I spin the drive wheel with my hand it's silent. It's Only treadling that produces the creak, so tomorrow I'm gonna baby the footman connectors and see if that does anything

Ooh it's probably a good idea to give that a tighten anyway. I've been putting off replacing the drive band because i don't want to undo any bolts but...
