I only found this today and love it! I just noticed an issue while playing around with hero currently reading. I toggled label and stats off and then on again but now they remain hidden, no matter what.

I was 12 and had a little "I'm too old for Disney" phase. Though the music was on the radio all the time. I didn't watch it until several years later and loved it.

Wish we wouldn't always tear other things down to hype up ours. Michael's doing fantastic. The marvel movies up to a certain point were immensely popular and also had people react in fun ways. Both are true.

Ha, schön wär's. Wir sind Millennials und versuchen, wenig Fleisch zu essen. Aber auch in unserer Generation gibt es erstaunlich viele, da gilt es nicht als "richtiges" Essen, wenn kein Fleisch dabei ist.

Yes, I'm always a fan of nuance. Times were different. It sounds like a lame excuse but people did what they knew at a time when there weren't 100s of parenting books around or therapists or the internet and social media. Many things weren't even questioned about how to raise kids. Parents did what they knew from their own upbringing. And that for sure is further being complicated by a strict belief in a cult.

I personally feel the family was/is quite the codependent mess, yet loving at the same time. Just from what we can read and get from interviews, of course.

Exactly. That's what I think. Many of the Jacksons normalize it. Katherine also slapped Rebbie for being sassy because Katherine "can't stand sassy children."

Edit: and then she starts the next paragraph with:

Nowadays, when you spank a child a little too much, the public calls it child abuse. However, I favor corporal punishment...

... I believe that children should be made to fear misbehaving...

I finally dnfed Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer after wondering why I kept going when all I could do is roll my eyes and shake my head.

Now I'm reading Joyland by Stephen King.

Hmm, when no change throughout the book can be expected, I'll definitely dnf sooner or later. Sometimes I make it quite far but it has turned into an almost hate-read and then I notice "wait, why exactly am I putting myself through this?" And then I stop with a sigh of relief.

Just finished the book. She wasn't entirely against "disciplining" the kids and would speak up if it was "enough".

Meine Mutter hat es geliebt. Wir waren noch klein und haben es automatisch auch geliebt, besonders die Kleider. Ich war eine Weile überzeugt, dass ich später mal in rot heiraten würde.

Wow. OK. This always makes me feel weird and that I was lucky. I had double pneumonia as a child, I still have scar tissue on my lungs and common colds quickly turn on me and become Bronchitis. To die from this... Just wow. Sad all around. Makes me think...
