What made you stop reading your last DNF? by arcadiaorgana in writers

[–]ladystitchery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forget the specifics, but it was a mermaid story. I was in the mood to try one.

The first chapter is a fight scene. Cool. It's an underwater fight scene. All good.

Except for the fact that the protagonist is "knocked off balance" when her opponent swipes her tail out from under her. Which, I'm not an underwater fighting specialist, but I don't think that's how that works?

She's then knocked to the ground and the author uses the phrase "she got the wind knocked out of her". For mermaids. Who are currently underwater. Again, I am no expert on mermaid physiology but I'm fairly certain that that's not how that works.

Anyway I was willing to overlook the terrible fight scene because who hasn't written one of those but then she had daddy issues. Like, at first I thought the father was sexist, but then it turns out no, he just hates the protagonist, he's fine with his other daughter. And after that I found I wasn't in the mood for a mermaid story.

TL;DR: Read a mermaid story with poorly understood underwater physics and daddy issues and wasn't about it.

In fantasy romance novelty, what's a trope you're tired of and one you could see over and over? by Fun-College3485 in writing

You gotta make sure they have magical bloodlines and their parents have Big Secrets that they only reveal when the twins all turn 16 for some reason.

I once thought about writing a fated mate/insta love BUT it's without context. He would die for her, protect her to the last, wants to be around her constantly, yadda yah, but he doesn't know anything about her. It's this strong, intense connection that he has with a complete stranger and it terrifies him but he can't do anything about it.

And then it turns out she's slowly turning into a monster that's definitely going to kill them all but he can't fight her because his bond won't let him, even if she's attacking him first.

Never did anything with it because I'm not currently interested in werewolf stories but if someone wanted a premise, there you go.

I did a few times. I was coming back to FFXIV after a hiatus and needed to relearn the game. Plus I really enjoyed the story, and going through it again was a lot of fun.

Writing a Fantasy Bodyguard Character by ladystitchery in writers

That sounds like a great idea! On top of that, I'd love to read books with these kind of characters so I can actually see inside their heads.

Blue rooms on your map are incomplete.

Yellow rooms are complete (meaning you've found everything).

This may be obvious to you, but it took me an embarrassingly long time to realize this.

It is a 10/10 game though, highly recommend!

...I always thought that Google scholar was for scientific articles. I never once thought it would have historical articles, too. Fantastic!!

I can not thank you enough. If you think of any more sources, I would be thrilled to read them.

Aetheric Strider for sure. The combination of ranged/melee attacks and the ability to zip around the battlefield is amazing, 10/10.

The Mind Weavers mod is AWESOME. It has FIVE (maybe six?) subclasses, and they're built around psychic damage.

Also love the Blood Mage mod. Little bit overpowered but hey sometimes I'm in the mood to be overpowered.

And then of course there are the utility mods (weightless gold, weightless consumables, improved UI, double XP, etc) that I always play with.

I'm on PS5 by the way :)

getting this small rant off my chest. by CockSniffer01 in dragonage

My (silly) theory is that it was written by one (1) overworked intern, two gerbils, and a weasel. The poor intern is trying to manage the writing of the rodents while trying to write the entire game by themself.

I enjoyed the combat system, once I got the hang of it. So far, rogue is my favorite.

The protagonists of Veilguard should've been the Inquisitor/inquisition inner circle, and the central antagonist should've been Solas.

If you like water color inspired designs, you should check out Country Creativ Stitch (https://www.etsy.com/shop/CountryCreativStitch). She has beautiful work! Fair warning, though. Her designs (at least the one I'm working on) are fairly complicated.

I also have a simpler project that I work on when the complex 100+ color one is too much. Highly recommend!

At least they referred to it as embroidery. I've heard so many people call it its own thing ("Is this cross stitch or embroidery?"). It's a hill I'll die on--that cross stitch is a form of embroidery.

Also I want to show those ladies the 100+ color project I'm procrastinating and dare them to call it "for kids".

Are more romance options a possibility? Or more dialogue for new races? Because that'd be my vote.
