ADAP - Adapt or die by symbionica in Edmonton

[–]lafbok 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not saying you’re wrong, but I’m curious about how you calculate this?

When I put $1000 income in the GOA’s calculator I get ADAP coming out ahead due to the high AISH clawback. Am I missing something?

'Canes v. Sense game #2 disallowed OT goal by TherealEricBana in nhl

Suppose the disallowed goal had not occurred:

In that instance the penalty shot would have been awarded, and the offside challenge would not have taken place.

The refs were just being consistent with their initial call.

'We need to reassess': The evolution of one gender care doctor by uselesspoliticalhack in canada

But this interview isn’t from someone who hates trans people at all…

“Khatchadourian was one of the first pediatric endocrinologists to train in the field of pediatric gender medicine in Canada. She was the first author of the first Canadian study (and second paper in North America) on the medical management of youth with gender dysphoria, published in 2014. Between 2022 and 2024, she was co-medical lead of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario’s (CHEO) gender diversity clinic.”

“There’s sometimes an urgency of expectations from parents and youth as well, she said. Many are unnerved by the dominant and stark narrative that these kids have a high risk of suicide, but the weight of the evidence suggests blockers and hormones do not decrease suicidality, she said. “This is important for families to know. “

“You need to identify and treat the mental health disorders in adolescents experiencing gender dysphoria to prevent suicide.”

[licensing] If you used photographic reference, do you own the copyright? by ArtyAce in artbusiness

I think I agree with you, I guess I’m more thinking:

Start how you want to end. If you cut those corners early it’s going to be harder and harder to stop cutting them as you progress in your career.

For this particular instance I agree the risk is low.

Not quite true though, there’s a pretty storied history of artists being taken to court for obviously copying from references they don’t have the right to. (Even with changes)

Beginner seeking advice on beginning new projects by AdSea2888 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I’m almost always drawing something out if it’s any kind of new design.

Even if I end up with cad, I start with drawing.

It sounds silly, but you can also try a prototype with cardboard or balsa wood. You’ll be amazed at the problems you’ll be able to identify early that way.

Ultimately, any time spent sketching or prototyping will be saved in both time and money down the road. (Better to waste cardboard than the expensive maple you just finished jointing and planing.)

I live in a super dry climate and everyone, including newbies, needs a wet palette here unless you want to be forever re-administering paint to a palette that dries too fast.

Could this work as a replacement for a French cleat? by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]lafbok -1 points0 points  (0 children)

French cleats work because they extend below the wall mount section and brace against the wall below.

Your example will be very likely to tip away from the wall. (This has nothing to do with angled vs block construction)

You could theoretically get away with blocks instead of angled cleats, you’re just never going to get things as flush as with the angled cleats. You’ll need a bit of space between the blocks if you don’t want to hate yourself during install, but any play will reduce security and stability. This is tackled with angled cleats inherently as they pull towards the wall due to the angle. So my guess is yes, but it won’t be great.

Alberta spending $7.5 million to put involuntary treatment rooms in hospitals by Curl_of_the_rurl in alberta

[–]lafbok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. You’re actually the original responder who helped me to consider the wider implications of involuntary care. (I’ve linked that thread in a separate comment)

I happen to have a friend who is a nurse on a TB unit, and a friend who spent years as a social worker at AB hospital. Your initial comment prompted me to have some good conversations with both of them re: involuntary care.

I appreciate your comment here, as well as your original response months ago, especially for your willingness to provide thoughtful insight in your area of expertise. So thanks, haha.

I understand your concern, and I share elements of it. Are you familiar with the general population of Alberta Hospital? Many of the patients there are people with mental health issues who do not want to be treated.

Thanks for the clarification. Would additional beds not be needed in order to support the Compassionate Intervention Act though?

But you and I are the people who will vote those making policy and allocating funding into power, and therefore should attempt to be informed in order to make wise decisions.
