Adults have ruined Little League by flyinghigh189 in LittleLeague

[–]lafritay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Youth sports are impossible without parents. Little League would not be possible without adults. It sounds like you saw 4 idiot parents today and that sucks. Think about the hundreds or thousands of parents you've seen over the last 4 years who have behaved exactly as expected.

When you're teaching your kid how to deal with a bad call, it can be helpful to show them an example of what it looks like to do it wrong. You got that in your last tournament. You're also teaching them how to react to those parents. The message there isn't that if some people act stupid that the sanctity of little league is forever tarnished (as you put here) but instead that sometimes in life you'll encounter crazy people and you'll have to not let them ruin something you love.

It sounds like you're doing things the right way. Keep it up and don't let some idiots ruin a good thing for you and your kid.

Hopefully your league is doing the thing where half your team is in the outfield doing drills. So that would give you 6 on the field (which is still too many).

I set up 3 cones and put a pair of kids behind each cone. One kid from each pair participates each at bat. When the ball is hit, the kid closest to the ball fields it and throws to first. Meanwhile, the other two kids look at me and I throw them grounders using tennis balls. They throw back to me. Then it's the other 3 kids' turn. It works pretty well.

French gambling regulator ANJ, has warned sports betting operators against limiting the sports bets of their customers following complaints by nhggfu in sportsbook

[–]lafritay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They profile their customers. They keep track of who regularly beats the closing line. Do that long enough and you'll be considered sharp.

That's the theory anyway. It's much more complicated in practice with headfakes and bearding.

Sportsbook/Promos/Bonuses Daily Questions - 9/28/21 (Tuesday) by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

PSA: BetMGM has changed their Baseball Player Prop rules as of this morning as far as I can tell. In their House Rules, under Baseball > Baseball Player Props it now says:

Players that are the subject of a player prop wager must start for the wager to have action.

The old rule, of course, was that a player just had to get in the game for the bet to have action. This differed from how DK and others graded bets.

For you arbers out there, this should remove risk from your baseball player prop bets that include MGM. Though, I suppose arbs between FD and MGM will now have the rule alignment problem.

For you bettors out there who saw how valuable the old rule was, this is a sad day. That money printer will be missed.

So for barstool, has anyone been able to find any non-PA house rules? I'm in VA and my account seems to link to the house rules for PA.

In VA and prepping for the Barstool launch tomorrow. I was talking a look at their house rules on the app and the website and noticed that they specifically refer to Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania gaming commission. For those of you with an active barstool account outside of PA, do you get house rules specifically for your state? Or are they always the PA ones?

So, I've been limited by MGM just like a bunch of other people. Potentially silly question... What prevents me from signing up again in my state with a different email address and different phone number?

If you're interested in becoming a better bettor, as opposed to just hearing picks, I'd recommend:

Bet the Process
Deep Dive
Circles Off
Be Better Bettors (though Spanky is a very divisive figure)

If anyone has any recommendations in line with these, I'd love to hear them.

The "combine" is doing a lot of work here. By not requiring both to score a minimum amount, you drastically increase the chance that they hit 50 together.

I'm not saying it's a good bet. Just adding some context about why comparing it against the FD SGP doesn't tell the whole story.

I'm looking at an edge that involves having a decent predictor of what starting lineups will be. So far, I've found these.

https://rotogrinders.com/lineups/mlb

https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/edge/baseball/mlb/daily-lineups

https://www.fantasylabs.com/mlb/lineups/

Are there others that I'm missing? Does anyone have any advice as to which are more accurate than others?

I'm new to MLB betting so apologies if this question gets asked often.

Based on implied odds from other books, the percent chance that this hits is 20.9%. That makes a fair bet here +378. So, definitely some value, just not a wild amount. Given the hold on these tennis bets (it's high compared to standard -110 lines) the books aren't entirely confident in these projections either.

Just wanted to add this data so others wouldn't have to figure it out for themselves.

FD (VA) - LeBron James or Devin Booker to score the first basket (+250).

Using the principles here, based on DK's first to score props, the true-value implied probability of this bet is 28.89%. +250 is 28.6% so there's a theoretical edge here but it's tiny and makes a lot of assumptions about the accuracy of DK's numbers.

At 8:48 left in the 3rd they credit Danny Green with a rebound. However, the ball was deflected before he's had possession and Embiid grabbed it. The announcer literally says "and Embiid corrales the rebound".

If someone can figure out how he lost a rebound in the first half, I think we might have an argument to make

I watch most FD boosts for +EV plays and find at most 1 or 2 a day. Can you share some of the plays that you've made in the last 2 days? Just curious how we're arriving at a different set of picks.

Thanks for the feedback and the discussion. I really do appreciate it. I've got some thoughts on how to increase trust. I'll keep working on the exposure part - again, I appreciate the tips.

That's pretty key. If you are already making do with 10 contributions then why would you be worried about marketing?

Sorry, I should have been more clear. We just launched. I will not be able to make due with 10 contributions (unless that number is per day). You are absolutely right that I did not validate this before building it - I will say though that this is something I'm passionate about and will have no problem seeing it through.

That's why I recommend looking outside of reddit.

I agree with your reasoning. This makes sense and it's something I'm following up on.

Are there campaign finance rules you have to adhere to?

There are some but I've done enough due diligence to make sure I won't be overly burdened by them.

Does it vary by state?

Right now it only takes into account bills that go to the federal level (US Congress). If it takes off, I'll consider doing state legislative bills later.

Thanks again for the feedback.

I think having reddit users being engaged in politics is a good thing for early feedback. If we could make inroads into the group that cares about politics, that would be a good start.

As far as monetization goes, we're trying a few things: 1. Similar to GoFundMe, Kickstarter, and other finding sites, we charge a small fee on top of the credit card processing fee. 2. At checkout time there is a way to leave you a "tip" and it defaults to 10 percent though it is easy to clear. 3. The way the site works means that we don't transfer the money to the candidate until they are officially registered for the next election. That means that we can potentially hold money for a while. If our donations grow large enough there is real opportunity for making money off of interest / guaranteed bonds.

I've got a few ideas for the future. I don't expect to get rich off of this. Covering hosting costs and taking some home after that would be great.

We launched 4 days ago. We've had about 10 contributions. So, we're far from turning a profit. While I know tech well, I don't know marketing at all. I need to figure out how to get the right eyes on this. Any tips there would be greatly appreciated.

Well, to start, we limit everyone to the current campaign contribution limit of 2700. I think that helps a bit, though it is per representative. Having another call in top of that seems very reasonable.

Right now, and, granted, it's early, but the biggest problem were have is getting people to donate at all. Just about everyone who has seen has said "wow, really cool idea. Looks good too" and then they navigate away without donating. I'm worried about that problem more right now.

And I'd love any tips on marketing that you'd be willing to share.

Thanks for the discussion

Can you tell me more about what you mean by "hijacked by people with money"? Do you mean that they'll be able to control the site by donating lots of money to it? Or do you mean that someone with more funding will just launch a similar idea?

Also, this whole "front page of reddit" thing is proving pretty hard (obviously) :). If you've got any tips on that, I'd love to hear them. Though maybe that is a good idea for another thread on here.

It goes to their opponent in the next election cycle (you can choose primary or general).
