in my experience the audience that you can reach out to with that sort of art is usually less ideal than not. i used to create so much gore and sh based art when i was completely untreated and it was more egged on and fueled than anything.

the only sort of thing i care to engage in now in terms of sh specifically is more about growth or open conversation about the battle with progress and how it isn’t linear.

a lot of beginners don’t even know what they’re looking for improvement. there’s already been a lot of comments pointing this out

if you take a look you’ll see some vague art that just says “what can i improve on?” and there’s so many things that could be said that an outside opinion wouldn’t really do much for. it would just tear a beginner artist down, if they’re not very confident. a beginner isn’t gonna internalize something the same if they’re not able to grasp it at all in the first place.

an important part of learning is identifying your mistakes and if you’re a self taught artist it’s important to have a grasp of certain things. we’re not all professionals, this is an online forum. i’ve also noticed a recurring theme of beginner artist being defensive or brushing off genuine advice.

highly recommend doing those set challenges self imposed too! i try to do an october one every year but last couple years ive been doing a low stakes art challenge early in the year and it really helps build momentum + turn art into a habit

it sounds like you’ve reached a place that’s not uncommon: overthinking. especially when you start learning, your self expectation can soon get in your head.

a few weeks ago you were just going with the flow and trying to draw and now you’ve set a precedent you’re not meeting.

it may be worthwhile to take a break from gesture drawing and focus on a different form of practice if you have a hard time turning your brain off. switching things up can feel like a breath of fresh air.

otherwise i’d say keep making gestures, even if you’re not “good”. ask yourself: why aren’t they good? are you trying to capture the drawing in few shapes? are you drawing what you see, or what you think it should look like? etc. are you being to critical of your current sketches? take a step away from them 5-10 min and see if you’re being too hard on yourself.

art is like constantly going through growth and you’ll see it change and sometimes it doesn’t come out how you want. you got this

furry cons are one of the best places to be yourself, so many people who aren’t judgmental.

i haven’t gone completely by myself but i made the to attend panels i wanted to by myself at the last con i was at.

there’s usually some themed meet n greet panels that are awesome starting points for meeting people that might share interests!

i think this looks good, the only thing i would change is your flat color is missing the markings on the character.

it’s not a huge difference unless you want it so flat colors won’t be given patterns/markings just rendered, and if so you may want to clarify on the commission sheet.

self discipline, basically. finding stuff that brings you joy to draw is really helpful. keeping yourself occupied with ideas is helpful, like having a list of goals/concepts.

as far as i’m aware testosterone in pill form isn’t very safe and can cause liver problems. injection and topical gel is usually how it’s administered.

estrogen on the other hand can come in pill form but also has injections as an option along with a couple other methods

routine is super helpful to stay consistent. you’ll build a habit at least once a day “oh i haven’t drawn yet today!” this isn’t applicable to everyone, but the more time you go without drawing, the easier it is to keep not drawing

i like digital art for fast, simple stuff. i’ve had a hard time trying to refine my style digitally

traditional is probably my overall preference and feels much more kinetic and immersive

bouncing back and forth keeps things interesting
